And you think there IS value in signing Price or Greinke? gmafb
Price OR Greinke would be a long term core ACE that you could build your team around. They would make a long term positive impact on the team and have at least a reasonable chance of actually being worth their contract. Both are in the top handful of pitchers in MLB and will likely be for several years to come (I expect 3-5). Heyward (despite his defense) and Upton are NOT in the top handful of OF in the game IMO, as I think they are "next tier." Upton looks like a boom or bust type signing which I think is too much risk for the Braves and Heyward looks to be steady but never the .285/30/.350 middle of the order run producer that his contract will call for.
FA pitching is the strength of this FA class. The Braves aren't contending anyway so why not shuffle the money, move current contracts for young talent (hopefully near ready high end ML bats like Frazier, Meadows, McMahon, etc) and use your cash to load up on the value play of the FA market which is ACE and next level pitching.
