If the Braves never have another lifer, so to speak, how/will that affect yo fandom?

I'll go ahead and admit it, whenever I used to see posts about the service clock regarding any Braves player, it used to annoy me greatly. Always figured it was best just to enjoy each individual season by itself (and I dunno, maybe it still is), but with all this talk about us potentially not being able to retain all our core players, I'll also admit that I can see a point in all those past posts.

So yeah, the topic question. At least for myself, I know I'd be hard-pressed to buy another Braves jersey of any player if the majority end up leaving at the end of those six years. Honestly, in terms of pure aesthetics, I hope we can at least retain Simmons - cuz there's a jersey I'd totally love to rock for 15 + years.

What are yall's thoughts?

Interesting question. It wouldn't affect how I feel about the team, that's kind of the nature of the business. It does make buying jerseys more difficult. I've always been one to buy sweatshirts and hats to avoid this problem.

After the player leaves, then the jersey becomes retro.

Nope, I'm a Braves fan regardless of who is on our current roster. I still have shirts that I wear from players that are no longer here. Also remember it's more important what name is on the front of the jersey, that will never change.

Bingo.

I'll cheer for the guys we have now until they go and then I'll cheer for the next wave of guys. I refuse to let the money and gutless business side of the game steer my loyalty. Go Bravos.

I will always be a fan. We enjoy aspects of certain players while we have them, but the team always lives longer.

That said, it's not easy to let go of the likes of Chipper, Prado, Smoltz, Maddux, Murphy.

Just because they are gone you don't lose the memory of what they did while here.

It's hardly the end of the world but you're right. I generally buy jerseys of guys I think will be around a long time. I have a mac and Heyward Jersey, one is gone, one may be gone soon. By then I'll probably get a whoever is under contract the longest that I like Jersey. Hopefully TLS.

Personally, I gave up buying jerseys of individual players and cheering for individual performances. Sure, there are some I pull for, but after what we've seen with guys chasing money, especially most recently with Heyward/Freeman allegedly not willing to accept an extension, you gotta just root for the name on the from of the uniform only.

I cant believe some baseball player can dictate your wardrobe choices.

Haha, pretty much what NYC said - I probably shoulda been more clear.

But yeah, I see my lack of interest in buying future players' jerseys as focusing more on the team as a whole; with the way the business of baseball is going, that really seems the best way to go as a fan.
