Illinois

This is what unions can do to you.

We can't afford the outrageous pensions (union won their battle and said the state must pay up and DON'T CARE if taxes are raised, law is law) and we already have one the highest taxes in the nation to pay them. Population and businesses are leaving. My dad retired as a Kentucky worker and will not be hurt but he is bitching about the taxes he has to pay in Illinois as a retiree and government worker.

What can we do? Even some loyal Illinoisan Democrats are hating the unions now.

Not arguing your points here, but it's all one sided, which is the norm on this board I guess. Out of control unions are bad no question, no argument, but what about CEOs, CFOs and upper management. I'm sure they worked for pennies so they could meet their payrolls, and they didn't have any opportunities to plan for these pensions THEY promised to their workers. I'm also sure none of them overdrove their companies and their workers to make their numbers look better than they really were to get better perks and packages, before they moved on from the Titanics they created to greener pastures before the piper had to be paid.

The only thing they can do is raise taxes. The person who banged out this law was a crook and the union took advantage of it, now the state occupants is paying for it. This will drive people of the state for sure.

How does that old saying go ? Only 2 certain things in life...

I'm tired of people bitching about their taxes and / or insurance payments.
It's childish and gauche

So, why didn't anyone in upper management say anything about this while they were also lining their pockets? If I said CEOs and those in similar positions should just not be paid their obscene salaries and perks many on this very board would seek to send out a mob with torches and pitchforks but since it's union BS instead of management BS now people want to get up in arms. I know regular workers have been branded as "takers" in this country by certain sources while the CEO types are the "job creators" but unless the CEO in question actually owns the company they are just an employee the same as those horrible "union takers". why weren't the people of Illinois pissed off when the great people at the higher end of the pyramid were getting rich, now those who worked for years (I'm guess many years, much of their lives, etc.) want what's been promised to them all along it's some sort of outrage. Maybe this will encourage the people of IL and all states to actually pay attention to what's going on in their states every day rather than when one of the chosen complains that now they have to make good on their promises rather than believe that tired old BS about economics based on rewarding the rich with no real thought of the consequences of it. Look at what the ahole in KS did to their whole economy to kiss the arses of their top 1%. The state is about to implode on itself and they still can't see it. Once a system where everybody has a reason to try their best (I think it's called incentive) works. Back in the 50s and 60s our economy was the best ever across the board and unions and management worked together, they probably didn't like it but they did it anyway. Then unions good greedy, corrupt, and criminal, and management got even more greedy and corrupt but when you're in that tax bracket you don't have to worry about criminal, you just pay off your elected officials and and maybe send an email to Sheldon Adelson and all of a sudden the crappy things you do are not only legal, they're moral as well. Between this sort of thing and the either/or discussion on cops shooting/being shot it's no wonder this country is in such a sh*tty condition.

By the way how goes job creation under your boy Walker's visionary leadership?

This is the reason why most of the governors in Illinois are in prison. Go figure.

It's childish and gauche

Totally... those governments should take as much as they want. they're always really efficient with it

For instance
Taxes levied to pay for bridge repairs and maintenance.

Taxes are cut because a RW pol goes to an extreme to attract voters that read only headlines

Leads to layoffs because there isn't money to honor union contract

Bridge gets worn

Bridge gets worn

Bridge gets worn

Bridge gets worn

Bridge gets worn

Bridge gets worn

...

Local economy goes in the tubes as demand disappears because there is no money to pay the person that maintains the bridge.

Over the course of a decade the bridge falls into horrible disrepair -- costing more to repair than it would have to maintain.
Where I come from that is called.
Cutting off your nose to spite your face.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

When you get to the bottom - aren't unions villified because they vote primarily (D) and (D) sponsers business reulation -- as opposed to those that think business should run rough shod ?

Meanwhile -- my neighborhood has an unsafe bridge.

At some point Sturg some night when you can't sleep or a day when you have some spare time I'd be curious to know what it is you call "government".

It's just that most people only complain about this sort of thing when it's taken by the few, the few who already have most of it, it's when it's "the masses" that people get up in arms.
