I can't be the only one. Seems like he's mostly hype to this point. I think we did the same thing with Coppolella in presenting him as a stat genius that we're doing with AA, and yet JC is literally banned from baseball. People seem to love AA on this board but he really hasn't done anything other than a bad trade for Tulo and an obvious trade that any of us would have made getting rid of Kemp.

You’re calling the Kemp trade an obvious move? Where did you see it discussed beforehand?

What else was AA supposed to do with a roster projected for 75 wins and only $25M to make upgrades?

Did you miss the part where AA created a roster that made back to back ALCS appearances while competing in the same division as the Yankees and Red Sox?

What about that guy Donaldson he acquired for spare parts?

How about that guy named Jose Bautista who he picked off the scrap heap?

Maybe the name Edwin Encarnacion rings a bell? Same story.

Then he spent 2 years as a member of the smartest FO in the game, where he hopefully learned even more.

Who else would have been a better hire?
 
All he has really done so far is the Kemp trade, which you frame as obvious, but in my opinion was a really creative way to front load all of that money into a year that we were bound to be punting in order to put ourselves in a better position for the 2019 offseason. We also got a potentially useful player in that deal with McCarthy. He hasn't made any dumb moves so far. He has just been quiet, as has almost ever other GM not in New York, Miami, St. Louis or San Fran. I guess its kind of arguable about whether he should be making a more aggressive play for Yelich or a FA signing like Frazier or Nunez, but I think he has current financial realities to deal with that restrict a lot of what he can do at the moment. Besides, if the plan is to punt 2018 then I think having a quiet non-eventful offseason is easily the best move. Let the young players play so we have a better feel for where we are at heading into 2019.

I don't think there is any reason right now to dislike AA based off what he has done as a Brave. He made some poor moves in Toronto, but also some really really good ones. How can you not mention the Donaldson deal? That's one of the more lopsided deals of the past ten years!... I think you are being a little unfair to AA
 
It's far too early to say one way or the other. He came on board to an organization probably in shell shock and still fighting over the Coppy mess. I hope he isn't already regretting his choice.
 
What exactly were you expecting? He’s staying the course... He said he doesn’t know the staff, who to trust on observations or what he actually has player wise on the farm.

I, personally, think he’d do a Yelich trade in some capacity if he knew what he was trading in prospects. Since AA doesn’t have an opinion of his own yet, what’s happening is to be expected.

He’s doing the right thing. He made a very wise trade dumping Kemp and clearing up 2019 salary space. He also set himself and the organization up to be able to do prettty much anything they want to in 2019 roster wise.

Mccarthey is definitely a trade candidate. I'm excited for that. He was good last year.
 
The Kemp trade wasn't a terrific move. It wasn't bad, just not amazing. We gave the Dodgers a huge gift in helping them with the luxury tax. Taking Kemp back was actually a pretty light return.

I'm also not a fan of his from his time with the Jays. Hopefully he learned some stuff in LA.
 
This is just a disguised "Off Season Hasn't Been Active Enough" rant. Too many members here want trades for the sake of trades. It's just to have something to talk about here and at other sites (usually to whine about giving up a "prospect").

The Kemp idea was posted on here at one point. Hell, that's probably where AA got the idea.

Any rube could have made the Donaldson and Bautista moves. Encarnacion? Not a fan.

I think my biggest issue and the whole reason for my rant is that I just don't think AA has been active enough to this point. I'm not going to say that I want trades just for the sake of trades, but I want to see some moves.
 
This is silly. There are about 20 FO’s “not active”. Sometimes the best move is the ones not made. Relax and let’s judge him in about a year.

Exactly. Your whole take is based on the fact that he hasn’t been wheeling and dealing like some kid running an MLB The Show franchise. It’s a dumb premise, and it should be obvious why we’ve mostly been stagnant.
 
I'm happy with the inactivity. I only see LF as a long term need and not willing to use assets to obtain one until the deadline at the earliest. We aren't winning a world seris in 2018. 2019 is at least possible IMO.
 
You may not share my opinion but at least it gives us something to talk about here and even at other sites.
 
The key to our rebuild is our young pitching. The main bad move I've seen and I'm not sure it was AA's doing is not getting us a proven outstanding pitching coach/developer. Then what AA does with those pitchers will be key. Our core is there.
 
I don't really want him to do much, so its ok with me that not much is happening. I like the Kemp trade.

I think you have to find out what your young players can do in the minors and its probably a good idea for the GM to understand his minor league system before trading players.

He very well could shake up the major league coaching staff at some point.
