West Virginia has lagged behind countries like the United Arab Emirates when it comes outlawing child brides.

It wasn't until 2023 that the West Virginia legislature raised the minimum age to 16.

I'll defer to your expertise on this matter. I've taught in the UAE (with both male and female students in my courses). Gone on business to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. But I can't say that I have any great insight as to what family life is like in those countries.

But then I don't know what happens in West Virginia. Except what I read in the newspapers (which is pretty horrific in some cases). Kudos to the West Virginia legislature for changing its laws in 2023.
 
The men I know in places like the UAE and Saudi Arabia marry western women quite often. American wives. French wives. Etc. I don't think they are choosing these women as their wives cuz those women are into getting beaten. But hey everyone's got their kink.

Cool. I'm glad you have such confidence in these historical accounts. Sadly for scholars in the field, there is very little in the way of reliable contemporaneous sources about Muhammed's life. Most accounts were written down centuries later (a bit like the scriptures of the New Testament). It is not even clear he lived near Mecca.

Accurate or not it still gives Muslims the excuse to do the things they do.
