Impeachment

Nobody knows about impeachment better than I do. - Probably Trump

I impeach better than any President in history ever. - Probably Trump

I'm not sure the Democrats could have done more to write their own gravestone for 2020.

The process is too long. The crime was clearly committed and there is tons of evidence. We've heard from all the witnesses except those Trump is blocking. He should be out of office already. White collar crime, which this in a way is, should be handled as swiftly as possible to stop the crime from continuing.

People are tired of the process. Hell, I'm tired of it.

Blocking witnesses and evidence may not be evidence of wrongdoing in lawyer-speak, but anyone with common sense knows that in this case, it is.

Should Nancy delay sending the the articles to the Senate? If Impeachment in the Senate will be a political win for Trump, maybe it's better to not send them.

Still better to send them.

McConnell is going to hurt some of his on the bubble senators by openly colluding with White House lawyers on the defense.

Just an extraordinary achievement, impeaching Trump with almost no defections,

in this disaster of a media environment, amid a deafening roar of GOP disinformation

about Dem disarray.

I wanted a broader impeachment. But this secured near-total Dem unity.

Pelosi pulled it off.

“The slow-rising central horror of "Watergate" is not that it might grind down

to the reluctant impeachment of a vengeful thug of a president whose entire

political career has been a monument to the same kind of cheap shots and treachery

he finally got nailed for, but that we might somehow fail to learn something from it.”

Over 70% think the witnesses should testify. Is Pelosi going to bank on that number and try and force McConnell to agree to a regular trial?

After reading the strategy that Pelosi might take by withholding, I like that strategy more. Sending it to McConnell now would result in a fast acquittal like sometime tomorrow.

Win the battle in the court of public opinion on how McConnell and Graham have already stated their intention to rig the trial publicly by not calling witnesses.

Let the impeachment articles linger through primary season until the courts answer the subpoenas for McGahn and such. SCOTUS should have ruled on McGahn and Trump's taxes by March. Force GOP senators on the bubble to answer these questions at the town halls, and let it linger over Trump during re-election campaign season now through the primary season. Not saying Pelosi would hold onto them that long, but she should weaponize it and give the Republicans and Trump a taste of their own medicine for a change.

What comes after the Senate Republicans block conviction? Kind of hard to see them go back to buisness as usual after this if Trump is still King.

I think acquittal was foreseen long ago. But using the articles to hover over the head of incumbent Senators like Collins, McSally, Gardener, etc. running for re-election combined with McConnell and Graham openly stating they want to hurry and pull the plug on this and help POTUS can only help the Dems.

I had not heard about that. First thing I saw after posting. I have never said good things about Pelosi but that's a 4D chess move and I like it a lot. Dont give Trump the chance to claim they exoneration after a sham acquittal.

I wonder if they might keep adding to the charges as it sits there. Trump certainly has shown no signs that he plans to stop committing crimes.

On a side note it saddens me greatly that Corey Gardner is likely going to lose his seat. He was pivotal in pushing back on Jeff Sessions. How he is going to lose to Hickenlooper who was anti-legalization when they started legal pot is beyond me. To his credit Hickenlooper is no longer against legal pot and has admitted it was a positive effect on the state.

Doug Jones probably doesn't win re-election in Alabama unless it's Roy Moore again. But even then Trump can probably expect big turnout in Alabama basically meaning a party line vote in the AL ballots and Jones out.

Anyhow:

AZ- McSally is running in the special election. Sinema won in 2018. State is getting close to being purple.
CO- Gardner is in trouble in a blue leaning state.
GA - Two Senate seats up for grabs. Dems should be able to pick one in a red turned purple state. GA GOP knows how to suppress vote better than anyone so we'll see.
IO - Ernst in Iowa has a slim lead. Not sure if Dems have a candidate good enough to unseat her. She probably would be up big if Trump's tariffs weren't hurtin farmers there so much.
ME - Collins could hav a battle there.
NC - Thilis' seat could be up for grabs if Dems get a strong candidate.

Seats unlikely to win but would be interesting if competitive:
SC- Graham
KY - McConnell
TX - Cornyn
WV - Capito
