Implications of the Trade

Price would no longer cost a draft pick. Wonder if he will be the right player at the right time.

Please note I am still not in favor of long-term contracts for pitchers. Full stop. Period.

But the current office may have a different view. They did seem to have some interest in Lester.

Price is the pitcher you sign longterm. He's really good and shows no signs of potential issues. Price has maintained his velocity since coming up, unlike say Alex wood

The implication of this trade is huge. We'll end up making an offer to Price or Cueto, and if they say no then obviously the answer is no, but they're not going to say no, because of the implication.

With trading Wood, they have no choice but to sign a SP this winter.

Going with Miller, Julio, Wisler, Perez, Manny, Jenkins, Perez is waving the white flag.

And the 2017 FA SP market isnt near as good as this years.

I think we either sign Price or Smardija this winter. We've have had checked in on both guys at different points before, so the interest is already there, imo. Of course that interest could have been from Wren, but I still think those will be our top targets among the SP front.

Exactly Heyward. They have to make the move for an ace this offseason if they want one, they won't have a better opportunity. I'm still wondering what bat they go after. Cesepedes makes sense and so does Braun. Milwaukee would love to get out from under him but would have to eat money to do so. How much I'm not sure.

I wouldnt mind Cespedes but im not sure he fits the bill on what Hart wants for a hitter.

Wouldnt be against Braun at all.

Both of those guys don't fit what Hart wants. One has great power and the other is a great hitter all around. Both would cost more than a few dollars and that's Hart's limit for offensive players.

Samardizja got rocked again today, i'm staying away from him.

Pitchers i'd go after would be Price, Cueto, Greinke, Zimmerman, Kazmir, Brett Anderson, Fister or Latos on a buy-low deal as well would be worth looks.

Brett Anderson? For real?

Brett Anderson? For real?

I think Brett Anderson on a short-term contract is one of our better options. Maybe our best option. Braves were the runners up for his services this past offseason, so they like him. Has had injury issues, but solid GB lefty when healthy. Career xFIP of 3.50. Alex Wood's career xFIP as a SP is 3.53.

I don't see the Dodgers letting Greinke leave.

If Grienke wants to take every dollar available then he won't be coming to the Braves obviously. I'm not expecting a hometown discount obviously as I expect the Braves will offer a 6-7 year deal at around 22-25 per year. If he wants 30 a year then he just won't be a Brave.

He keeps pitching like he is and he will easily get 28-30.

Agreed. The offers will be there for Grienke. Its all going to be about what he wants. He was very candid the last time he was a FA and said he went for the most money. Is that going to be his motivation this time? I have no clue.

And if you really expect to get a guy like that who's been playing on a team trying to win a championship you need to be going for it in 2016. Not preparing for 2017. Not trying to get a Wild card spot and making it to the NLDS. You need to be plugging your holes and trying to win a damn pennant.

I'd sign Cespedes and Price if we made two big moves but thats me.

I think the goal in signing Grienke would be to compete. I hope they would augment the team further by getting another bat in the lineup. I believe that Olivera is going to produce so thats already one guy. I also think Markakis is going to have more power next year so thats an improvement as well. I'm not sure why its such a far fetched scenario to imagine the Braves being in the WC hunt next year.

It all starts with getting either Grienke or Price though. Without them the pitching doesn't stack up.
