Haven't been a fan of either, but if I had to take one, it'd be Baez. He could be our 3B right now, and if he improves even slightly he potentially gives you that long-term roster by Opening Day 2017...
CF- Smith, SS-Albies, 2B- Swanson, 1B- Freeman, 3B- Baez, RF- Markakis, LF- Olivera, C- Flowers
I want absolutely no part of Soler - let them trade him for pitching.
Do you think we'll see both Swanson AND Albies in the lineup for opening day 2017? I'm thinking Swanson more than Albies. But, that would be pretty awesome.
I am not sold Mallex is an every day guy. We're likely to get a breakdown from Olivera or Markakis so he'll likely get a chance to play. He could play LF (I know he has to be a CF to be a plus player, just saying you could do it to see if he hits).
I'm not trading Inciarte unless we get a big overpay. From the cubs I'm talking about a top 10 prospect and either Baez or Soler. Or maybe their top Catcher prospect and a top 20 prospect (from their system, not overall).
Yes the cubs would laugh at that now. And the cubs message boards would be on fire. But the trade happens in a scenario where they are looking at needing one piece to win the WS. They have the depth and the money to overpay if they are a piece away.
If no big overpay you keep him and address in the off season what you want to do.

Seldom do we ever disagree ol' pal, but if they really don't like Hector's defense enough to leave him at 3B after the CJ Experience, I have literally no interest in seeing him try to turn double-plays with his back to runners personally. With Albies and Swanson on the fast-track, I'd just as soon they put him somewhere and leave him alone - I understand not wanting to use it as an excuse, but it's got to be awfully hard to hit when you've moved around as much (socially and positionally) as he has in the last 18 months. Stick him somewhere that all he has to worry about and let's see if he really can hit.
I hear you, mate. I just can't help thinking that the one spot you mention is likely his natural position, or as close to one as he has. Yeah, he may pull a Ron Gant and thrive in the OF after shifting from second to third, but I for one would like to see what he can do where he's most comfortable. So I agree 100% with your reasoning, just not the conclusion. Also, second seems to be a position of at least equal need unless you are a bigger Jace fan than I am.

I think Mallex is going to be a solid 4th OF. I do not see him as an everyday guy.
I see no reason to trade Inciarte....he is exactly the type of player we need to be acquiring, not dealing away.
That being said....if some team wants to be stupid and give us a major overpay for him...as with any player, you trade him....it would have to be a clear, no brainier win for us though.

Truth is that Cubs have a lot of guys who are blocked
They could be one guy away. That guy could be a cf with a high obp.
They prob overspend on pitching but I can hope
