Well, start at the beginning. He agreed to, or instigated having his nickname copyrighted for marketing purposes. Speaks to someone who, at this early stage, might be inclined to put his interests over the team's. Not a guarantee, of course, but the first red flag. The second is, that at his age, these "handlers"
aren't going away any time soon. The third is how little baseball he's played in the last two years -- a key time for development, you have to say. Combine that with the amount required to sign him, and as I said he sounds MORE LIKE a franchise killer than a savior. If they move heaven and earth to sign him, I hope to God I'm wrong.
The Braves have taken an honest run at him, and his dad refused to let him come to camp. Fine. Leave the offer on the table, but make your priorities the July signing hoard.
I don't see how this changes him signing with the Braves.
This mess get worse with every passing day. Yeah, this nothing the Braves (or any sane team operators) should want any part of.

Folks are acting like death threats are a routine part of negotiating and posturing. Time will tell, of course. But everything about this tells me that the family is dangerously over their heads with someone on the shady side of legal.
MLBTR is where I saw this, but they drew from several articles:
This situation with Lazarito’s buscon and Hairston is of an even more chilling nature, with Hairston declining to name the buscon out of concerns for the safety of Culture39 employees.
No one's acting like that. But first, Lazarito himself is not the one that allegedly made the threat. And two, there really is nothing in baseball, outside of signing a guy to a massive contract who immediately becomes terrible, that can be considered a 'franchise killer'.
The write up is almost exclusively about Cruz and Pache. Most notable thing to me was Badler writing that Cruz has a lot of similarities to Yankees SS prospect Mateo "but taller."
Thanks! But I was actually a little more curious about the other players that we signed not named Cruz/Pache/Morales.................. anybody have any info or blurbs on the other 20 kids we signed?
Ventura is the kid whose debut excited me last year. Surprised to see them say he has an "average" arm. since he had 14 assists in just 58 games. The 11 errors tells me he might be a high-powered for his own good, but not since Andruw have I seen more impressive combination of offensive and defensive numbers in a young player.
Ventura doesn't turn 19 until July.
Lots of really fun and interesting prospects to watch this year. I can't wait till to see who we pick up during the July 2nd period. With no news of anything on Lazarito I think we'll be major players for him as well.
That's my thought. If he was going to one of the teams that overspent he'd already have signed.
Sounds like the Padres are way out in front
I can't shake this sneaking suspicion that the Braves are going to make a huge splash by adding Lazarito to their IFA haul on July 2nd.
