International News, Rumor and Signing Thread

Nothing really new here, although the pessimist in me can't help but feel like the comment on Lazarito is not hopeful.

I am neither excited or worried about lazarito. We will probably hear something soon enough. All signs point to the Braves wanting him. But there is a lot of money out there that can bid us up. So we need to keep our eye on the prize and get maitan and Abraham as well as others. Lazzo would just be icing on the cake.

Maitan, Gutierrez, Severino AND Lazarito?!? That's crazy to think about and only just starting the list of who we'll sign... Love it... We might sign another five top 30ish prospects...

DOB's coverage on Lazarito and Maitan has been solid the last couple of weeks. I really enjoyed the quotes from Gordon Blakely regarding Maitan.

The Braves may have a behind the door agreement with Lazaro but they couldn't come out and hint to anything, so imo the article doesn't mean anything bc they can't give any information away until July.

Is this showcase required? If we supposedly have a handshake deal with Maitan, why would he even bother going unless it's to showcase his talents to other teams?

You guys are reading too much into all this. We will get Maitan.

I'l go ahead and save all your quotes commenting as if you actually know something. Then if the Braves don't sign him I'll patiently wait for your expert explanation as to what went wrong.

Personally, I wouldn't pencil him into the Braves prospect list just yet. "Generational talents" don't sign for $4M.

Haha, k.

They do if they were born in the wrong Latin American country.

I'm sure we are the favorites to land Matian... but all of the posts already penciling him as a sure bet is dangerous, IMO.

How many times do we have to be disappointed before people stop getting their hopes up?

Anything can happen, but it would be a big surprise, and fairly unprecedented at this point, for us not to land him. It's as sure a thing as a signing that won't officially happen for 5 more months can be.

All the news outlets that say the Braves have a handshake agreement have to have some credible sources. And as to why he'd want to go to the showcase.....how about bc it would be fun and he gets to play with the best prospects around? Who wouldn't enjoy that even if there is a deal in place? Him going means nothing.

According to DOB, Braves probably don't have the resources to sign Maitan and Lazarito as well as the other international guys they want. Source https://twitter.com/DOBrienAJC/status/697196176114737152

Well, shucks. I guess we'll see, though. Perhaps the market is lower for Lazarito than DOB's source thinks. I don't really get the sense DOB is particularly in tune with the IFA market anyway. I'm going to expect him to sign elsewhere, though.
