International Prospect Signing Rumors

It may sound dumb but word usually gets out a few years in advanced but are we linked to anybody for next year?

All we know is we are linked to a top 10 prospect next year. But no one knows who because the guy who reported it gave the information on his podcast (I put the link in here earlier) but you have to subscribe for $5/month to get the info. He is really connected on international guys and was the first linking us to Perdomo at this time about a year ago.

I’m hoping the name will leak somewhere else in the next couple weeks before I bite the bullet and pay it.

Repost the link if you don’t mind. I may subscribe

Wasn’t that Puassion guy a no 1 type guy before we had to forgo signing ?

No loss for the Braves. Puason signed with the A's and he has been terrible (really terrible) to this point.

To Hudson's point, both internationally and stateside, scouts start watching kids fairly early. There are baseball academies in the Dominican Republic (not sure about the other Latin American countries) where kids in their early-teens are playing. Stateside, there are so many premier traveling leagues throughout the country and scouts are clued in on guys fairly early. Add to that, the showcases that players participate in starting in early-high school and scouts and other talent evaluators can start the sorting process. I think the bigger problem for evaluators is that interational prospects are signed at 16 and the earliest high school guys sign at 17 (and there aren't many of those). Stateside kids also have the option of heading to college.

Cruz is a lefty. Already wearing Braves gear. Nice looking swing, seems to have a quick line drive type of bat. Really quick really. Got swag...speed. More should come out soon.

Is it Wilmer or Wilber? I can’t find much info or social media profiles on either name anywhere.

Interesting report from The Athletic re corruption and age fraud in the international signing game. Looks like using the Braves as a punitive example a half-decade ago hasn’t done much to diminish the abuses.

This tidbit stood out as noteworthy, as well:

It seems that the problem is largely confined to the Dominican Republic; age and identity problems are much less frequent in other Latin American countries that produce significant baseball talent, like Venezuela.

Another reason to be thrilled the Braves seem to have a competitive advantage in Venezuela currently.

My problem is that the Dodgers and Yankees did the exact same thing as the Braves. For years. Nothing else ever heard about the investigation of them. I get Coppy didn't cooperate, but not even a fine? Something? Anyway...water under the bridge I guess.

Best thing that ever happened to the Braves. No scandal, no AA.

I shutter to think that Acuna would have been a free agent this offseason without that extension.

Can you imagine what he would have gotten?
Atleast 600 million right?

Coming off a season like that at his age, it would of been epic.

Double checked my own work and turns out RAJ would have been under control for one more year, but same point.

Nothing AA will ever do will beat locking Acuna up for his 27-30 years for $68m.

You just have to get used to MLB treating their holy grail teams to a different standard. MLB feels they are more succesful when teams like the Yankees and Dodgers are top contenders so thats the lense they view everything through. MLB veto'd a 2 Billion dollar local TV deal for the Dodgers saying it was bad for baseball at the same time they rubber stamped TimeWarner selling Braves local TV rights to a TimeWarner owned company during the sale for pennies on the dollar. That wasnt bad for baseball apparently for us to get a local TV deal on par with the Marlins but for 30 years.

Funny thing is most of the players we lost havent amounted to a whole lot. But the biggest problem with losing them was they could have been trade chips instead of other players. But as chop said, w/o that, we dont have AA as GM.
