International Signing Day: Results, Rumors, Spec

I see we're trying to exploit the Columbian market and started with Julion, now that everyone is digging in Curacao.

I wonder if we still have ties with the Renterias. Edgar played for us and Edinson coached in our system. We have worked Colombia pretty hard over the years. Besides Teheran, Luis Barrios was one of more heralded signings a few years back. Ronald Luna was a utility IF in the lower minors for us as well.

Keith Law called Contreras the best pitcher in this class yesterday. How in the world did we get him for $200k?

People seem to be all over the place on him, I've seen him ranked from 19 to the 40s in the class. More consistently in the 30s-40s though.

Size and delivery concerns have led most to assume he's a future reliever, but I'm definitely psyched.

wow, what a day!

now with one more draft and one more opportunity to pick a really highly rated hitter coming, this rebuild is really starting to round into form and with some squinting, one can see a possible powerhouse well down the road. a lot has to work out, but with 500 quality mlb pitching prospects in the system, it does seem possible that they can find enough to really carry them through for years. we'll see.
