I didn't really mean it. Just saw a ball on a tee and felt like I needed to take a swing.

Umm why is Cain reverse heiling? The best thing about Cain was the constant jokes from COlbert and Stewart.

Can only hope that weso's jinx on Chris Christie also ends up applying to Paul Ryan. No offense weso.

Makes them weak and ineffective leaders?

If we're going to bring back any President from the dead I vote for Herbert Hoover.

Well Hoover certainly knows how not to lead a recovery effort boom roasted.

And I picked Franklin PIerce for a reason, he's pretty much the worst president according to most historians.

Hoover can actually lay more claim to the New Deal programs than FDR can. He became President at a really inopportune time, as Cool Cal should bear the brunt of the blame for the Great Depression.

Coolidge is a horrible president. I'm of the opinion that of the republican presidents between Wilson and FDR Harding and Coolidge were worse than Hoover. Hoover didn't seem like a bad dude, just got all the bad press from the 2 guys before him.

Hoover was a brilliant man. A good, easy read is 1920: The Year of Six Presidents by David Pietrusza. Hoover was courted by both parties (much like Eisenhower). I've always thought Hoover's problem was his stubbornness and his inability to rid his administration of the influence of guys like Andrew Mellon. For some insight on that, read Arthur Schlesinger's The Crisis of the Old Order, the first volume of his Age of Roosevelt trilogy. Schlesinger has a bias, but he's a darn good historian and he provides a good look into Coolidge's inability to see the coming storm that saddled Hoover with insurmountable problems.
