Is Free Speech Under Attack in this Country?

by that logic a statue of Stokley Carmichael next to it would be appropriate.
he headed an organization that fed children before school --- which in mine and many eyes is far more significant than a failed militarian

How long before y'all start preaching from the Bible of the Flat Earth ?
That is a rhetorical question

"Failed militarian." That you think of him as such proves your ignorance more than any standardized tests ever could. Thinking his military success has any bearing on why he should be remembered fondly in the capital of Virginia is what I would expect from a cardboard cutout Millennial NPC, not a boomer who should know better.

yes failed

The military academies too define surrender as failure

That's a helluva windmill you're charging at Mr Quixote. Why would any parent want pornography in a children's library?

One man's pornography another man's erotica and yet another man's great literature. There is a fair amount of what some people would regard as pornography in many of the greatest works of literature. D.H. Lawrence comes to mind. Lady Chatterley's Lover. Has been banned. Will likely be banned in various places in the future.

Maus I believe has pictures of naked mice. I haven't followed the controversy that closely. But is the objection to naked mice?

But none of this strikes me as worth getting exercised about. I suspect young people are more likely to seek out Lady Chatterley's Lover if it is on some sort of forbidden list.

I was reading several books per week from fifth grade on. I never ran out of either great literature or what lots of people like to call great literature, despite the lack of access to pornography in the school libraries. Since then I have discovered that many authors who include pornography seem to correctly believe that their story or writing isn't good enough to entertain without it.

You mean 5th graders don't get a pornhub premium subscription with their tuition payments? They have to pay for it on their OWN?

We went to the public library like twice a month as a kid. In no way shape or form are kids these days chained to the curriculum or sheltered from this material. I read way more books than the school recommended in my free time.

"Banned" lol...you guys are precious. Dramatic as hell, but precious all the same.

They have to create imaginary outrage because when its about reality and policies they lose every time.

https://greenwald.substack.com/p/the-pressure-campaign-on-spotify

American liberals are obsessed with finding ways to silence and censor their adversaries. Every week, if not every day, they have new targets they want de-platformed, banned, silenced, and otherwise prevented from speaking or being heard (by "liberals,” I mean the term of self-description used by the dominant wing of the Democratic Party).

For years, their preferred censorship tactic was to expand and distort the concept of "hate speech” to mean "views that make us uncomfortable,” and then demand that such “hateful” views be prohibited on that basis. For that reason, it is now common to hear Democrats assert, falsely, that the First Amendment's guarantee of free speech does not protect “hate speech." Their political culture has long inculcated them to believe that they can comfortably silence whatever views they arbitrarily place into this category without being guilty of censorship.

Constitutional illiteracy to the side, the “hate speech” framework for justifying censorship is now insufficient because liberals are eager to silence a much broader range of voices than those they can credibly accuse of being hateful. That is why the newest, and now most popular, censorship framework is to claim that their targets are guilty of spreading “misinformation” or “disinformation.” These terms, by design, have no clear or concise meaning. Like the term “terrorism,” it is their elasticity that makes them so useful.

Given the climate prevailing in the American liberal faction, this authoritarianism is anything but surprising. For those who convince themselves that they are not battling mere political opponents with a different ideology but a fascist movement led by a Hitler-like figure bent on imposing totalitarianism — a core, defining belief of modern-day Democratic Party politics — it is virtually inevitable that they will embrace authoritarianism. When a political movement is subsumed by fear — the Orange Hitler will put you in camps and end democracy if he wins again — then it is not only expected but even rational to embrace authoritarian tactics including censorship to stave off this existential threat. Fear always breeds authoritarianism, which is why manipulating and stimulating that human instinct is the favorite tactic of political demagogues.

And when it comes to authoritarian tactics, censorship has become the liberals’ North Star.

You cannot fight these tyrants with our typical moral compass. You have to destroy them in totality and then reclaim civil society.
