So look, anybody tripping over themselves to commend the Dodgers for this is very dumb, but also get the fuck out of here, ICE. The Dodgers mistaking Border Patrol for ICE as the federal immigration agency that was loitering on their property is simply not worthy of this little gotcha moment from the federal government. The Dodgers did nothing wrong in asserting their private property rights or protecting their reputation in Los Angeles by issuing a statement that would explain why federal immigration agents were on their property. Even if you disagree with Los Angeles or California on immigration policy, it is simply not in the best interest for our federal government to be using a major US business as a punching bag for not wanting Feds on their private fucking property.
This is not useful in advancing national security. If a student applying for a visa were to pose a threat to public safety, presumably the federal government would be able to accomplish any necessary investigations without requiring students abandon their right to privacy from the public as a whole.

You’ll have to forgive me for striving for an outcome that involves less violence against ICE agents *and* our ability to freely discuss the goings about of any militarized forces whose salary we pay for and are prone to overreach when left unchecked. It needn’t be either/or.
The federal government retains the responsibility to enforce its laws without interfering with the rights of its people. Given that you have no issue holding individuals accountable for their actions, why not extend that to the institutions that govern us?
Commenting on the location of a government official is not crossing a line and assaulting officers is already quite illegal actually.
No, these are two distinct issues. The government doesn’t get a free pass to take away whichever rights they wish, even if people are committing other crimes. It is not obstruction of justice to say “hey, I saw a cop today.”
