iTHURSDAY MINORS FINAL 6/1 ... Final at-bat losses everywhere

Has anyone noticed Ozzie's severe splits in Gwinnett?

As a RH batter (55 PAs): .377/.400/.528
As a LH batter (177 PAs): .226/.282/.327

I mentioned this weeks ago. No idea how much worse/better he would be vs RHers without the platoon advantage though.

The interesting thing is that his swing is virtually identical on both sides. I wonder if he just doesn't see the ball out of the hand of a RHP as well.

His splits have never been this pronounced, so you have to hope he'll start hitting better against RHP soon. It's both encouraging and discouraging to see the splits like that.

you could excuse the splits this year because he broke his elbow on his LH swing. But even in 2016 the split is pretty large. Also seems to have more power as a righty.

Didn't know where to put this, and didn't feel like starting a new thread......

but we have about a full season's worth of ABs for Acuna now if we look at his minor league track record. He's got 557 at bats over the course of 147 minor league games

557 ABs, .305/.386/.476, 26 2B, 12 3B, 15 HR, 64 BB, 133, 56 SB, 19 SB

That's a tremendous line, I gotta admit the stolen base numbers surprise me, I've always known he had good speed, but I feel that's its either underappreciated or he just has tremendous quickness/anticipation.

His platoon deltas have been:

2017 - .319
2016 - .129
2015 - .038
2014 - .233

So it's always been there, and it's almost always been significant.

Albies may end up being best utilized in a leadoff platoon with Inciarte when they have the platoon advantrage, and hitting 8th when they don't.

Optimized 2018 lineup is probably:

vs RH/vs LH

Inciarte/Albies
Freeman
Kemp
Markakis
Flowers
Rio/Garcia
Swanson
Albies/Inciarte

Maybe flip-flop Swanson and the CF platoon. Maybe put the CF platoon 9th and the pitcher 8th.

Makes too much sense for the Braves to do that. We are not forward thinkers.

Why be thinkers when you can just plug Acuna in to protect and drive in runs. may need to move him to a corner spot to prolong his career.. that is the only forward thinking I need!!

The platoon splits do concern me. I think he should give up switch hitting. Theres no advantage for him.

these things are not immutable...i believe Chipper improved a lot from his weak side (righty) over the course of his career...of course if the numbers for Albies continue to be as pronounced as they are this year, your suggestion would have to be looked at
