I think he's a very good veteran option for us and would be great grooming Teheran/Wood/Miller. I just think at the end of the day he'll be out of our price range.

I'd go for Peavy and tell him that if we are not a winner, that we'd look to move him to a contender at the trade deadline. This way our young guns get his leadership for most of this year, and he ends up on a contender one way or another. Though we could maybe convince him to stay through this year with the promise that if we're not back winning by 2016 we'll look to move him to a contender at the 2016 trade deadline.

Yea, I want him mostly for the former but agree he is likely out of our price range, etc. MLBTR pegged him for 28 million on a two year deal, that is 14 million per of course. Maybe we can handle that but we might need to move Justin first.

That said, I have to think his preference is to stay with Bochy, Huddy and Bumgarner in S.F. as close as they seem to be (esp. after winning a WS together).

I don't think he'll be out of our price range. I just don't think he'll wanna be apart of a struggling offense.

Well Volquez who thought was an option is now gone, so yeah, it wouldn't surprise if they go after Peavy. They have to get a veteran to fill out that rotation capable of 200 innings.

Peavy has two rings in two years. I think all he cares about now is making as much money before he retires or maybe he wants to pitch close to home.

I think we should be looking to sign players to 2 year deals with an option for 2017. That way if the contract turns out bad we won't be dragged down by their contract but if it turns out to be a bargain we have an asset going into 2017. The real key is not having anymore albatross contracts beyond 2017 when bj/CJ combine for 25 million.

I find it highly unlikely the Braves will sign anyone to a 2/28 contract.

All FA contracts will either be for 1 year, 4+ years, and/or very cheap.

I really wish they had grabbed Masterson.

I actually think a high money 2 year contract makes sense for the Braves. Opens up money for the 17 year.

Not a big fan of Peavy on a multi-year deal at this stage of his career.

I think it'd be smarter to take a chance on guys like Ogando or Villanueva. If we have to go the grizzled veteran route, then one year deals with Harang or Vogelsong sound better to me than a 2-3 year deal with Peavy.

What about seeing how much it would cost -in terms of prospects- to get one of the following:

1. Kyle Lohse
2. Jacob Turner (realize he isn't a vet but he is cheap and could eat some innings and possibly with the help of Roger McDowell, develop into a solid pitcher. He was once a highly regarded prospect for the Tigers)
3. Trevor Cahill (an extreme ground ball pitcher)
4. Ricky Nolasco (coming off his worst year in his career, maybe can swap him for B.J Upton and a prospect -although they may not want to "sell low" and it still may be a reach- or cash)
