January 6th insurrection thread...

Can 57 or goldy explain to me in their own words how the "shocking" texts prove some sort of coordinated conspiracy of a coup?

Democrats benefit from their dumb ass voters

That Scott Adams tweet makes the point that they have no rebuttal for. If there really was an insurrection planned, they wouldn't have shown up with bear spray and tasers. And based on the crowd we saw and the ineffectiveness of the police, they probably wouldn't have been stopped before they got to the politicians.

Yup. Nobody who stormed the Capitol on 1/6 was armed. All tourists. Nothing to see here.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Such an insurrection.

ONE GUN!!! That arrived late.

Sounds like a convenient story to counter the 'no guns' angle that clearly shows it wasn't an inusrrection.

I'm not sure whether to sarcastically say that this changes everything or condescendingly ask if you're serious. For the life of me I can't come up with a productive response to the point that this person had a gun.

WHAT AN INSURRECTION!!!!

I think I’ve been pretty clear that I’m not following the party line of the actions on 1/6 being what it’s been claimed to be. However, what this does show is that even the people in Trump’s closest orbit felt that Trump had a moral obligation to stop the violence and Trump failed to act. Again, I don’t think it was an impeachable offense or that Trump was a willing participant, but I do think Trump handled the day very poorly.

Edited to add: I’m also not willing to accept that the 1/6 riot was LESS than what it actually was, either. Previously the “absurd” standard for Leftists was claiming it was high treason and everyone should be tried for that. Now the goalposts have shifted to some combination of it being a peaceful protest or a conspiracy theory. That’s just not true, either. At the end of the day, I see this as a semi-violent riot that was political in nature. I think some of the people there would have happily caused harm to those around them if given the chance, and that others got swept up in the chaos and were simply trespassing. It’s the job of the courts to determine who did what, and I think a commission is a waste of time and money.

This is basically what I was getting at in my last post. I think calling this an organized tactical strike on our Democracy is nonsense, and probably is contributing to the Right’s harsh turn on messaging. If we had called it what it was, which is a bunch of idiots doing illegal things rather than roping the President into it and claiming he directly caused the ruckus, perhaps we’d be in a better place.
