CBS: Insurrectionist Robert Palmer, aged 56, of Largo, Florida,

wept today as a federal judge sentenced him to more than 5 years

in prison for his role in the Jan 6 coup attempt. Longest sentence so far

to note here, " ... wept"
 
How would you charactorize subverting an election ?

Regardless of office or your feelings of candidate or party

You'll never get the two sides to agree in DC. One would want universal voter ID and very limited options for not voting in person. The other wants no ID, same day registration, vote from home, non citizens voting, and canvassing.
And if they did agree, the next fight would be about how different states are enforcing the rules differently. If enforcement went to the federal government then there would be concerns that it was being manipulated by the feds.

Right or wrong, losing trust is hard to come back from.

Oh I agree with you. I'm just saying that this would be the only way it might work. Those people wanting to do it at the state level are only trying to rig the game so that their guy/girl always wins, you know the very thing they accuse others of doing. You're also right about the road back to trust. I'm not sure the Beatles and the Hollies songs put together even scratch the surface on it.

If it was a serious subversion of an election there would be people getting shot. This was nothing more than a riot. Hard to call something an insurrection when people are being invited in by the capitol police.

Personally I don't equate a riot of a bunch of scum in Seattle with an attack (or whatever you want to call it) on our nation's capital, but if it makes you feel any better I did and do totally condemn both and I would have called out SWAT or whomever I needed to call to crush both, just as soon as the peaceful protesting stopped and the violence started. Don't you feel like people on both sides have a tendency to wait just a little bit longer to condemn the assholes whom they consider to be "on their side, but who are misbehaving" than they do those on the other side?

I think I see a strategy. I might be wrong. The whole issue was prosecuting

a former President, which the US has never done. DOJ didn’t want it to seem political.

With NY state doing it and for crimes done before the Presidency it might be

more palatable to many.

Look a crime numbers from any era in large population centers. ( cities )
Crime/ poverty favors no political party.
