January 6th insurrection thread...

or we could talk about the potential make up of the Special Committee but
being true to type, you chose the low hanging fruit.

My hope is choosing Katie Porter
and what (R) do you support the Speaker choosing ?
She is on record that she will name 5 or 6.

I mean it’s not low hanging, it’s rotten on the ground.

Idc who really serves on the committee and as long as they separate their job and party. That’s impossible in this climate, so my expectations are incredibly low as it is for most of Washington. Truthfully it probably needs to be handled by someone else other than politicians with something to gain.

who better than our elected representatives on national television?
I also hope my (R) Representative is named
He isn't a bomb thrower --- which is what I think you are getting at.

We disagree, I don't think all 435 are crooked
Senate might be another matter

And of course they all have ties to business and interest groups. Dont we all ?

Unfortunately, I think Tapate is mostly right. Of the 435, I would say at least 95% lack either the ability or the desire to separate their job from party/politics. This is where things like term limits, eliminating big money and corporate donors from politics, changing the primary system, etc. would all make a big difference. That being said, there isn't a whole lot of nuance in this particular case so I'm not sure it matters who is on the committee.

thanks for bringing to light that interview where someone wants to be reminded about the threats to our democracy we are still facing cause the leaders haven't been held accountable

I’m so confused at all this. There were like 10,000 people or something right? What was the violence by these thousands of people to consider this an “insurrection”? The broken window, and the one death that was actually an unarmed trump supporting woman that was shot?

One death is too many, but the other 4 deaths were not due to violence. This is an “insurrection” and a capitol “riot” yet rewind just a couple days back and people were dying left and right in these peaceful Juneteenth gatherings.

Stop being slaves to the media with their use of these buzz words.

Broken window and one shot (not even by the ‘rioters’) = insurrection and riot!

Hundreds of deaths, billion dollars of damage around the country, stores looted, businesses aflame, people murdered point blank = peaceful protest

Always love to hear a well thought out opinion in full sentences, whether I agree with it or not.

OTOH, a violent attack on the Capitol called for by a sitting President during vote certification is indeed an attempted insurrection, or perhaps worse, an attempted coup by deluded mob. It was what it was. It could be accurately described in many ways. It was a throng of mentally challenged people directed by career con man and known felon.

It was an attempt to intimidate Pence and others into setting aside the constitution. Inspired by the sitting president.

It's shocking that it didn't succeed in doing that. Who would've thought Pence would finally stand by the constitution?

Pence is a decent man who during the past four years has done his best in an impossible situation. I'm hoping the GOP becomes pencified.
