January 6th insurrection thread...

The great pepper spray insurrection just came up an inch short

We need to ban assault pepper spray canisters as it is just too dangerous to keep them legal

Pence is a decent man who during the past four years has done his best in an impossible situation. I'm hoping the GOP becomes pencified.

Really? If Pence were a decent man, he would never have stayed four years. I believe the GOP has already been "pencified" - they've sold out their principles in a desperate attempt to hold onto power.

Unless you are implying that Pence all along was on a mission to protect the republic. That seems rather far-fetched. It feels more like he gladly rode the Trump train all the way and then cowardly jumped off at the last stop before the gates of Hell.

Pence is a standard conservative. He isn't perfect. But he ain't nuts. My bar is not high for what is acceptable in a politician. That's why I hardly post about people like Pence, DeSantis, Cotton. I may not agree with them about certain issues. But they are psychologically balanced adults. That'll do.

What the GOP considers acceptable has been moved considerably, and not only in the last 5 years. More like 40, since Reagan started chopping the legs out of democracy. Once upon a time the GOP claimed to stand for fiscal responsibility and family values, but those lies seem to be gone forever. Where the part of the GOP that isn't in Camp Orange stands now on any issue is a mystery.

It looks like their only concern is holding onto their slipping grip on power. And now Mitch and Mitt, if they represent factions of the still breathing GOP camp, have two enemies to deal with - the Dems and the Nutballs.

Always love to hear a well thought out opinion in full sentences, whether I agree with it or not.

OTOH, a violent attack on the Capitol called for by a sitting President during vote certification is indeed an attempted insurrection, or perhaps worse, an attempted coup by deluded mob. It was what it was. It could be accurately described in many ways. It was a throng of mentally challenged people directed by career con man and known felon.

I appreciate the response, but you are clearly putting emotion into the thought. President Trump didn’t incite anything… he asked them to peacefully March. That’s as American as it gets.

Juxtapose that to Maxine Water saying protestors need to get more confrontational….

Which one is inciting violence?

Like come on, no one was trying to overthrow the government…. With no guns? Republicans? No guns? “Insurrection”

Barely a riot.

If you want to say Trump didnt directly tell them to get violent that's fine. What led to the violence was his insistence that the results could be overturned. Any very stable genius would have known the dangers of winding up very passionate people. Literally all he had to do was say "we lost, I believe the election was fair to me, but it's over. Mike Pence is going to do his constitutional duty to count and certify the electoral vote as Joe Biden did in 2016". But no, he kept telling them that if they fought hard enough they could stop Trump from leaving office. These were people so delusional many of them thought the Capitol Police were gonna join them.

I'll just keep posting this until people watch it. If you actually open your eyes, any defense of these people goes out the window. It's impossible to watch videos of them and say 'they didn't want to overthrow the government' or 'they didn't think Trump sent them' or 'they didn't want to stop the certification' or 'they weren't violent.' The only way to say those things is to ignore reality. The whole thing is on video.

Hope they all find a cozy cell somewhere disgusting. But as long as everyone else gets theirs too....

Had a lot of folks throw out these riot and looting cases... and it doesn’t feel like justice is applied at all

"Over time these will be seen as patriots trying to overthrow a tyrannical government that stopped allowing the people to decide."
