I'm looking at around 6-year/110 Million or so.
Heyward wins Defensive Player of the Year. Now if we can get the Braves FO to convince Heyward and his agent that defense isn't worth anything we can probably sign him for cheap.

Split a difference: as a maximum threshold, I'd offer six years and $140-million aggregate.
That's what premier players are going for these days. Trading him or letting him walk is a sign that the Braves are going to be a mediocre team in the near future.
How does trading him set us up for mediocrity? I think turning Heyward into multiple young pieces could be a good thing.

IF we get multiple young pieces, and IF they work out. Heyward IS a young piece that has shown plenty of flashes and could put it together at any time (he already has in the past).
And unless those hypothetical young pieces contribute immediately, we will be worse than mediocre for at least a year or two. It's all a gamble. Heyward has shown plenty of signs of being a good gamble.

You are right. A gold glove defender who is slightly above average at the plate isn't as hard to replace as people think. It would take a really bad trade to no be a better team. Prospects plus 20+ million in payroll will make us better 9 times our of 10.
The odds of that happening are slim. Any trade involving Heyward willl likely have the most value going to the team that gets him.
Look...nobody is downplaying the importance of defense. But the biggest reason for our struggles is an atrocious offense. Everyone wants to talk about WAR being the end all stat but it's flawed. Heyward's WAR is that good because of his defense and I will gladly sacrifice some defense in RF for an impact bat. Seems like I have to continue saying this but I PREFER keeping Heyward and I know there's no guarantee a trade works out. I'm just very curious what Heyward could get on the trade market.
This team has quite a few needs to fill long term and I personally think turning Heyward into a few pieces while saving $20M and spending elsewhere might end up being the better move.

Given our offensive struggles last year, it surprises me to see the amount of discussion about moving Heyward, Justin Upton and Gattis. If you look at offensive output by position, there are few right fielders who hit better than Heyward, few left fielders who hit better than Justin, and very few catchers who hit better than Gattis. Of course offense isn't everything. I suppose we might gain enough defensively to make up for the offensive loss involved in moving those three.

Imo Heyward for 20M/year is very likely to beat any combination of players we can get for a similar amount.

Yes. When you talk about price per WAR it's generally in 2-3 WAR range. The higher a players WAR generally the less per WAR you will pay. If you can afford a superstar player then it's very smart to do so. A 6 WAR player will generally cost less per year than two 3 WAR players
An impact bat in right is not going to fix the horrendous offense at third, short, center, and second. Those are the areas that need to be fixed. We need to get around league average offense from those spots.

Right. That's where the upgrade has to come. I'm somewhat optimistic La Stella will settle in and give us more at second. And I think Peraza will help somewhere too. Which leaves one position where an external upgrade would help the offense. But right, left and catcher are not among those positions.
