Playing the Waiting Game
Jason Hursh apparently getting called up for tonight's game in Washington. No news as to whom he is replacing (seems like Hernandez DFA makes the most sense to me).

If indeed this is true, congrats to Hursh who was our 2013 first round pick.

I remember when Hursh was one of our top 5 prospects. Hopefully he can help us out in the pen next year.

Hursh has done everything asked of him this year. The trouble with the Braves' prospect list is, once you lose your place in line, you're falling back. I know, kind of a NASCAR allusion.
Now, if Lipka and Davidson could figure out something, the Braves' monster farm system would be complete.

Hursh just pissed me off. It's not his fault. I just can't get over this "bottom of the rotation floor" starters that were said to be safe picks.

Hursh has surprised me this year. Before this season I was predicting he'd pitch his way out of the organization. It's been good to see him find some success. That being said his realistic ceiling is an average middle reliever. Maybe finding a niche as a double play specialist with his sinker.

He's been pretty good this year, but the Ks are nowhere close to what you'd hope for a reliever who throws as hard as he does.

I agree, and you know what....at this point thats fine. Because a few years ago it looked like he wouldn't be doing much of anything. Kudos to him for working on his craft to this point. Keep it up and he should be useful. I'd like a pen with him in it.

The two certainly aren't comparable, but there were lots of folks who said the same thing about a recent call-up with a 103+ MPH fastball.

Would be thrilled if Hursh could turn into that ground ball specialist someone mentioned - we could use one of those. We've got enough high-strikeout guys who don't get enough grounders IMO.

I don't see either one of these guys winning a spot in the pen next season, so I hope they pitch their hearts out and up their trade stock.

We drafted him too high but he could still be a mlb pitcher

Like others have said a ground ba guy could be big for us. ESP if we improve our infield defense.

If healthy (big if I know) we have power, high leverage arms in Cabrera viz Simmons minter paco. These two guys can be others.

I'd love to not have to spend money on the pen for a while

Cabrera struck out way more than Hursh does.

Obviously too early to say how he'll do at the big league level, but this is why you have to be patient with pitchers. Peripherals are still iffy, but heavy ground ball tendencies that are really high this season. Still could develop.

Why does it seem everyone here just HAS to nitpick?

This was your statement - "He's been pretty good this year, but the Ks are nowhere close to what you'd hope for a reliever who throws as hard as he does."

People said the same thing about Mauricio, no?

Can't even try to agree with someone around here for crying out loud.
