Jason Kubel = Dan Uggla; Twins pulled the trigger

Jason Kubel is only 32. He was an all-star for the Twins with three straight 20-homer seasons, bolted for Arizona as FA and was 30-90-.253 as recently as 2012. But he hit .212 last year and was in the middle of an 0-for-31 slump when the Twins (who re-signed him as a FA this year) DFA their former stud.

He was signed only through this year, but otherwise, his plunge is very similar to that of Uggla's. Will the Braves actually wait until there's only one year left on his deal ot pull the trigger.

Kubel didn't cost them much.

Uggla on the other hand is like Zito/Wells/Lincecum et al. Tough to throw 25 mil in the drain.

Uggla has no use on this roster. He is hurting the team because he taking up the spot of someone that could actually help.

Anyone would be of more help.

Yep. We have guys at AAA that can at least contribute without totally botching everything they touch. Uggla has proven he doesn't bring Defense, PH ability, any batting ability to the table. At least Gosselin, Terdo, Constanza could contribute at least just a little bit in some way shape or form.

All of those guys would be improvements over Uggla. Uggs at this point is a complete negative on the team. Sure, guys may like him but this is a production driven buisness. Time to just cut him. Holding on for a potential trade makes no sense. There is not one MINOR league team that would take him at this point.

We could do that, but I don't think Liberty wants to eat 25 mil though.

I really wish we'd give Terdo a chance, I really think he could be an impact bat of the bench in the same role as Doumit. And if Fredi isn't going to utilize Gattis late in the game to PH for Laird, no point in having Doumit on the roster and someone like Cunningham or Constanza could have a much bigger impact.

The bench is already weak as it is, but who would help?

I don't know who would help more in the organization. Open question. It would be a different situation if both Uggla and La Stella weren't one-position players.

Of course, I'd just bring back Hessman, which I've been advocating for years! :Wall:

Hell, Bethancourt as a late game defensive sub only would have more of an impact with the big club than Uggla has so far.

I'll tell you another under the radar, that is having a pretty decent year since being signed at Gwinnett and he has MLB experience. Brandon Boggs, he's a switch hitter and can play all three outfield spots, maybe he could be an option down the road. I still would like them to take a chance on Jeff Keppinger if they ever pull the trigger on Uggla.

Unfortunately just about anyone that we could bring up to take his spot would be an upgrade from Uggla. FW is just going to have to suck it up and release him. No one will take on that contract unless we make a trade that involves some good prospects.
