John Hart - President, Baseball Operations

This is great news, quit overreacting about silly job titles.

The fact of the matter is we put together the best possible scenario as far as upper management with Hart playing mentor to JC, all the while providing the leadership to rearrange and reorganize the entire organization from top to bottom. JC at this stage of the game brings a lot in player evaluation.

This is great news Braves fans, I'm reenergized after a disappointing season and really look forward to what the future holds. The organization is in good hands, and Hart is perfect, absolutely perfect to right this ship and get us back to championship caliber type teams.

Put this with our young core, a new stadium, and some grand times are on their way!

Well said. Couldn't agree more.
 
With Schuerholz, Hart, and Coppoella (have to include him) along with then return of Clark, we have some smart guys running this organization. It's not going to be an overnight process and there may be some moves that could be a bit hard for us Braves fans to swallow, bit I feel better about the direction the Braves are headed in.

Oh good. We can trade Heyward and Justin for Gregor Blanco and Prado so we can be a tough gritty team instead of a good one. I can't wait to be cellar dwellers for the next ten years while we look for more cornerstone players after we ship those two away.

I do get a chuckle out of this. Labels, labels, labels. Buster Posey may not be a superstar, but he's an effin' great player. Not a stellar defensive catcher, but an extremely good hitter. Hunter Pence has been up-and-down, but he's shown throughout his career that he can hit. Panda has slid some over the past few years, but he's a career > .800 OPS. Same thing with Morse. Giants had six guys with > 10 HRs (and Brandon Hicks would have made 7 if he had decided to stick with a wood bat and not going to plastic). They have solid pitching (that has overcome injuries) and they have a great manager. Yet, people treat them like they are this ragtag set of over-achieving oddballs. Had Scutaro not missed the season and the team not had a revolving door at 2B (and I'll admit the stand-ins--Hicks and Panik--went beyond the call of duty) and Cain had stayed healthy, this team could have easily won the West. The Giants have some serious 'tude, but Sabean has done a good job constructing that team. Dayton Moore has done well, but if anyone has overachieved this post-season, it would have to be the Royals.

Lots of great comments on the subject and some were great for a laugh. I don't worship John Hart (and I think his baseball "tree" is overrated), but he knows his stuff. I think the combination of Coppolella's analytical skills and the new scouting team's approach should spell a better long term future. As per who has what label, as long as the decision-making process is orderly and produces results, I don't think there is any problem.

There's no one right way to build a winning baseball team. You acquire good players and you teach them to play well. To me, the only constant is that you have to have solid and consistent starting pitching. There are a lot of things you can do after that. I've always considered the Oriole franchise from the mid-1960s to the early-1980s to be the best model, but that's 50 years ago now so I understand any skepticism. Coincidentally, both Schuerholz and Hart cut their teeth with the Orioles during that stretch.

Bobby's principal job is to BE BOBBY COX. He is retired, more or less. He is little more than a consultant with tenure. Which, frankly, is what Henry Aaron has been for the last two decades.
