Johnny Venters traded to Braves

Freeman has been hot garbage for awhile, but he's a also been rode harder than.... well you know. Maybe with Venters in the fold, Freeman will get a little more rest and be sharper in future appearances.

As valuable as this type of in depth analysis is, Freeman's .318 xwOBA suggests he is the 5th best arm out of the Braves BP behind Minter, Winkler, Viz and Biddle

Yeah. I think Freeman is worth holding too. Any sort of analysis would indicate this. Heck even watching the games closely would reveal he's got good stuff and has been a bit unlucky (as in every mistake pitch is getting crushed which generally does not happen). Plus he's been a bit up and down, partly due to how hard he's been used during certain stretches.

I suggested getting Venters back after the Rays sent him down earlier this year coming off his great ST. He was always a favorite of mine, so good to have him back. I think he can still help us but I do not trust Snit not to misuse him and screw it up. As I said before, Snit is why we are not in first and why I doubt we hold on to the last Wild Card much longer.

Its not going to be easy navigating a pennant race with the current pen. But it is a workable group in the hands of a good bullpen manager. It'll be a good test for Snit.

If AA's plan is actually to give Snitker rope to hang himself with by not making major changes, I'm perfectly fine with throwing away 2018 to better later.

But at the same time, part of the story is on the players, and it's just honest to say that the season started spiraling down the drain with the Facebook game over a month ago. It was when Freddie Freeman stopped playing at a special level for quite a long time and for the most part really the team returned to being a pushover, outside of a 3 game sweep of the Cards and a surprise win against the Yankees. If this 11-16 stretch continues for another 20 games or so, like I hinted at in one post, you have to very seriously question if this was actually sadly a true talent 75-76 win team that overachieved for 71 games and then it really puts 2019 into question, even with a new manager because managers do cost games, they don't cost a ton of games however, it's more like maybe 3.

IOW, you expect him to continue to fail at it too.

I'm meh on Snit as a bullpen manager. I think he has distributed the workload decently, except for the early season abuse of Freeman. Sometimes he seems befuddled about how to use Biddle. I think he has to coax more out of the starting pitchers. We'll see how he handles a pennant race.

Being the 5th best bullpen arm in our bullpen's recent state is like bragging about being the tallest midget.

Intelli Braves understand that Freeman is a perfectly acceptable member of the BP, and several others should be replaced before he is.

You are not one of those people.

Freeman isn’t 5.00 era bad, but he’s nothing special. Walks too many batters.

he's serviceable in his current role now that Venters is the primary situational lefty...he can give you multiple innings and can get opposite handed hitters out...that has value...
