While I think the Braves will obtain a LHed hitter to platoon at 3b, I think there are better options.
One of them will be playing in AAA for us this year. But he and the club would be better off if he spent at least half the season there.
Franciscos compensation wouldn't be so large that he couldn't be sat for Kubitza if the time came.
I personally think that it would be wise to get someone like Descalso or Kelly Johnson for a couple reasons:
1. They can play multiple positions
Descalso- 2B/SS/3B
Johnson- 3B/2B/1B/OF
2. In the case of Descalso -and Johnson to a certain extent- they can enter as a defensive replacement for CJ late in games.
3. To me the most important reason is because they wouldn't cost much and are comfortable in a reduced role. I say this because I truly believe we will see a CJ that produces closer to his career average. - .273/.309/.411 against RHP and .312/.349/.443 against LHP- Which wouldn't require a platoon with someone other than the normal off-days and maybe a day off against tough righties.
Just my opinion.
I agree with you. I'm not ready to toss CJ yet. I think he's closer to the guy we saw in '13 than '14. He lost his stroke and got away from his approach trying to hit for power. I think he's going to work well with Seitzer. I also like that he's got the red ass and is good for starting two brawls a year.
I think we should resign Bonifacio and hope they're talking. He's a handy guy to have around. With Melvin and CJ and whatever we do at second, there are 550 at bats for him.
I would love for them to re-sign Boni for one reason in particular.. so he can play 2B full time (while also taking time in CF and letting Gosselin get some reps at 2B/3B) and not have to rush Peraza. I think he would benefit greatly by spending a full season at AAA and possibly getting a September call up.
Makes all the sense in the world. I think maybe you and Hawk need to take over for John-John.
Let me ask you this... If Bonifacio isn't re-signed are you comfortable with Pastornicky/Gosselin handling 2B? If not, who are some possible names you'd like to see get a chance?
BTW- You are a great poster yourself, and it seems you have a lot of knowledge about the game and our organization. Keep up the great post!!
