Julion Teheran over the Years

Do the Astros have the prospects to pull off a trade for FF and Teheran starting with AJ reed and bregman?

I don't know, but I'd listen. Bregman looks like he could man 3b pretty durn well (on D and have plent of offense to keep up). We would have legit long term options at everywhere but RF and C.

He's been my fave since he arrived in the bigs. When he's on, he's aggressive and doesn't mess around. Kind of old school in that he moves guys off the plate. He's probably been a tad on the lucky side this year, but when he's pounding the strike zone and keeping the ball down, he's a really good pitcher. I've always thought his problem has been that his breaking stuff can get lazy and when it does, it gets tattooed. Like Julio3000, I don't give two craps about whether he's an ace or not.

He should net the same return as Miller, but we probably won't be dealing with Dave Stewart in a prospective deal, so the return won't be as bountiful.

In terms of repertoire, he's the throwing the slider more than ever and it has become a very good pitch for him.

In terms of a possible trade, I think it is unlikely. The front office has gotten caught up in the narrative of having a dynamic young team for 2017. Trading Teheran would be seen as a step away from that, unless we can get an amazing return. And lets face it trades like the Miller trade don't come along very often.

Can bregman or Swanson play 3b?

The scouting reports I see say Bregman has a good glove and arm, and that the main knock on his defense at SS is range. That sounds like it would probably play at 3B. He also evidently will be starting at 3B in the minors on Friday. Looking at his numbers, he is on fire right now; I know he was supposed to move quickly but he is killing the ball in AA and with a lot more power than I expected. I wouldn't be disappointed if we got Bregman back in a deal.

I mentioned this in the other Teheran discussion, but how would you guys feel about something like this:

Red Sox get: Teheran, Markakis
Braves get: Benintendi, Swihart, Sandoval, $24 million

It fills two needs for us with prospects who are close to the majors, while the Red Sox get out from under the Sandoval contract and have an OF that lets Brock Holt go back to being a super sub. I think the Sandoval/Markakis swap is interesting also because it allows for some creativity in how the payout is structured (I have no idea if this is actually ever done). We could, in theory, send money to the Red Sox for Markakis in 2016/2017 since those are likely dead years for us anyway (especially with this year's weak FA class), then get it back plus the extra money in the following years when we're actually (hopefully) competitive. Or we could try to send them Olivera too.

It would set us back but what about Julio and folty to Rockies. Dahl, Nunez and they draft who we want them to with their 8 pick this year and pay for him.

So they would draft him and put him in their farm system for the rest of this year only to give him to us eventually? If MLB got wind of that, I don't think they'd be happy about it.

The Rockies have the 4 pick, btw. But I absolutely do not want to trade both Teheran and Folty right now.

I would be very surprised if the FO made a trade that treated 2017 as a dead year, i.e. absorbed payroll in 2017 for a player that wasn't likely to contribute much as we are this year with Bourn and Swisher.

I'd see if we could get the Astro's to throw a major package our way at the deadline if they are making a run.

Astros get: Viz, Teheran, Gant
Braves get: Reed, Bregman, and Tucker

Makes sense for the Astros for the fact that they get a stud pitcher, closer, and an arm in Gant
Makes sense for the Braves for the fact that we get a high upside 1b, 3b, and Of

I doubt they'd be happy but not trading picks will hopefully go away in the next CBA b/c it's stupid. They'd just make it a PTBNL...just like they used to do before the trea turner rule.

I'm not saying I'd do it either. I think it would set us back because we'd be counting on a lot of Wisler and Blair. And we'd need 3 of Newcombe, Simms, Jenkins, Gant, Perez and Ellis to be pretty dang good.

But Dahl is really good. If he could play RF with Inciarte and Mallex you'd have an elite defensive OF and Dahl can mash. He's LH, so not ideal. Nunez is supposed to be a big time catching prospect who can hit. And you would get another pick to replenish. I'd probably want another piece from the Rockies but don't know that I'd get it. I'd excpect that Dahl is close to a no get b/c they'll want to flip the big CarGo money and put Dahl in. So you'd have to go big.

Maybe Texas is another place we could go to get a hitter. Maybe the Pirates....

I'm just saying there isn't an obvious target to me.

FF isn't getting traded.

Or showcased.

My main worry with the Astros is that the big prospects I'd want from them - Reed and Bregman - are both at positions where the MLB club has holes. If Houston continues to struggle this year and Gattis and their 3B platoon haven't turned things around, I could easily see them deciding to stand pat, bring up Bregman and Reed and getting ready for next year.

Someone at BA the other day said they saw Bregman drafted as a trade chip. I'd look into him in a deal for Teheran.

This is who I keep coming back to. The Stros have a need for Teheran, Inciarte, and Vizcaino. I'd like to see a trade for Bregman or an even bigger deal for Bregman and Springer with us taking back some dead contracts for this year in Feldman and Valbuena to allow them to conduct another trade to replenish.

If Sandoval and Williams Perez had a conference on the mound, they'd have to use their cell phones because their collective girth would separate them to the extent they would have to shout.

Bregman is my #1 trade target. He's cheap for several years and plays a position of need for us while giving us some RH power. Teheran would get him if we wanted to trade I'm sure.

I think Sandoval is pretty adept at using his celly during games.

I understand all the arguments and economic development reasons and projected deals for Teheran. Makes sense, most of it.

I just don't want to deal him.

I really don't either. If folty, wisler, and one more young starter show they're ready for this level, I'd certainly entertain a Teheran trade bc I don't see how we're gonna get enough offense going forward without a big trade

Started feeling like the lone dissenting vote regarding Teheran. He's grown up a Brave and I think he could anchor the staff when we become competitive again. I understand the "trade him" crowd, but I'm wanting him to be a Brave for a long time. Now about Williams Perez.....

I can understand the argument on both sides. But I think we tried doing that with guys like Minor and JJ and it came back to bite us. Teheran's value is at an all time high, and we have no real offensive prospects. Outside of Albies/Swanson....guys like Peterson, Riley, etc. are way far away

I'm fine with trading Teheran mostly because of the way this rebuild has gone. If we don't have enough quality starting pitching in a couple years and we're regretting dealing him, then this rebuild has gone extremely poorly and having Teheran here or not wouldn't really matter. So deal from a strength and get bats.

Although, I do understand the emotional side of just not wanting to deal him. I love watching him pitch. I just think it's best for the future of the franchise.
