Kevin Seitzer New Hitting Coach

I would be lying if I said I knew anything about Seitzers work other than when he was a player. To me though this is just another indication of the organization bringing in talented people to work in a cohesive environment. I'm getting more dissatisfied with Wren by the day which hurts because I was one of his biggest supporters in his time here. **** was real bad behind the scenes.

Been reported by all major sources now... looks confirmed. In his only year with Toronto, they were second in the league for team OPS... said to be a contact coach... did pretty good work with KC before that. Fantastic hire, IMO.

At this point I'd have been happy with anyone other than Walker, but this hire has my interest piqued. Good news imo.

Huge, huge, huge hire. If he can help us to somehow maximize the contact in our hitters, we could be fantastic. If anything, moves like this make me confident. NOW, to get rid of BJ.

Good move. This is the kind of change I wanted to see in the manager position.

You know I'm with you on Freddi being an awful coach but with everything that has come to light on Wren I think its worth seeing what Freddi can do with one more season. It seems that Wren was a power a power hungry egomaniac that micromanaged everything. Its highly likely that Freddi is still a horrible manager but I think one more year is worth giving him.

Keeping Blow Job at leadoff and strUggla on the team for so long to save face on awful contracts hoping they would turn it around.

We still had the same manager after Wren left. He didn't suddenly start making great in-game decisions and having excellent lineups. Nothing changed. And is it REALLY worth giving him another year when this might be the last year we have Heyward and Upton? I guess it's pointless to discuss it. Hart wants Fredi to stay, so that's what is going to happen.

Looks like a good hire, hope he does well.

But to think that just because a hitting coach suggests that his hitters make more contact and get on base more frequently is the magic formula is naive. Folks....it's about our personnel. Always has been. Get better hitters if you want to see a change.

I like the hire. A quick look at the numbers from 2013 to 2014 reveals that the production of the primary seven players for Toronto stayed pretty much the same - Melky's big jump in OPS was balanced by Reyes' and Rasmus' drops. However, those seven Blue Jays struck out much less - 18.2 % K rate in 2013 compared to 17.3% in 2014. That doesn't sound like much, but it amounts to 7 less strikeouts in 112 more at bats.

It's never easy to quantify the impact of a hitting coach, but there is some empirical evidence that Seitzer could help the contact rates of our hitters.

Agree to some extent, but you are conveniently ignoring the fact that a number of hitters came to Atlanta and had some of their worst offensive years... so your mantra of "get better hitters" doesn't work out as nice and neat as you make it sound... we were getting pretty good hitters... then they came to Atlanta and for whatever reason (is it that hard to believe part of that reason is the HITTING coach?) they have career worsts. So, I think you're being a bit short sided.
