Kevin Seitzer New Hitting Coach

Masterfully dumping blame and disdain on the departed — perhaps that's the Braves Way.

They certainly didn't dump on Dayton Moore or Roy Clark when they left.

It will be interesting to see if Wren catches on elsewhere. The last guy the Braves poo pooed on was Leo and he didn't have close to the impact after the Braves that he did when he was there. Maybe they just know who is good and who is a Dick?

Agree to some extent, but you are conveniently ignoring the fact that a number of hitters came to Atlanta and had some of their worst offensive years... so your mantra of "get better hitters" doesn't work out as nice and neat as you make it sound... we were getting pretty good hitters... then they came to Atlanta and for whatever reason (is it that hard to believe part of that reason is the HITTING coach?) they have career worsts. So, I think you're being a bit short sided.

"Short sided"??? lol
And no, I'm not being short-sighted. I wish it was that easy...change the hitting coach. I'm hoping it will help, of course. But from what all of the hitters have said, Walker wasn't the issue. We just didnt' produce. We have some very flawed hitters. You think Walker was at fault for Uggla? Chris Johnson and BJ are what they have always been. Simmons is a groundball machine and Walker worked with him saying, "there is no future in groundballs to the left side of the infield". Justin is what he has always been. So, who are you talking about? Who did Walker screw up?

These guys are what they are. And it's my opinion that although hitters ebb and flow during their careers, who their hitting coach is has very little to do with that. They get by on their talent and ability. Some can adjust and change their approach, but it has little to do with how good the hitting coach is.

The post-Steroid Era game has changed and pitching has the upper hand again. The Giants were one of the first teams to adapt their roster to a more contact-first, situational hitting approach after Bonds left and the results speak for themselves. Power is still important but it's the teams that aren't dependent on it that have been winning in October. The Giants never replaced Bonds with a big time HR hitter and the Cards never replaced Pujols but both have remained consistent contenders because they have great pitching and preach a balanced offensive attack with emphasis on doing the little things right. Every run is precious in today's game and you have to be able to manufacture them.

The Braves were awful at manufacturing runs this year. Their roster was supposedly built around power and athleticism with the Upton/Heyward outfield and Uggla, Freeman, and Gattis in the infield. But athleticism is useless if you can't get on base, don't steal when you do get on, and don't do the little things when the situation calls for it. And the power never materialized like Wren envisioned from Heyward, BJ, or Uggla. End result has been a dysfunctional offense that Seitzer now inherits. Sounds like his philosophy will be the right one for today's game and what the Braves need but it's going to be up to the players to implement it and Hart/Fredi to replace the ones who can't or won't.

Teams that strikeout a lot are even more exposed in the playoffs because typically teams with the best pitcching make it.

We still had the same manager after Wren left. He didn't suddenly start making great in-game decisions and having excellent lineups. Nothing changed. And is it REALLY worth giving him another year when this might be the last year we have Heyward and Upton? I guess it's pointless to discuss it. Hart wants Fredi to stay, so that's what is going to happen.

was about to type the same thing

You're right... BJ and Uggla performed at the same level in Atlanta as the rest of their careers...
Johnson has never been good... Will give you that... But Heywards approach has slipped under the tutelage of Walker also. If what you claim is true there is absolutely no reason to have hitting coaches I guess. Guess he was fired for zero reasons.

Oh and players aren't going to throw a coach under the bus even if it is a problem... That's a good way to get off a team and have a bad rep. Of course they will publicly say he's not the problem when he's still the hitting coach.

In 1988, my wife and I had twins, a boy and a girl. That allowed me to get by with giving him a name based on ball players. His name was "Ryan Kevin". Ryan was of course after Nolan Ryan, and Kevin was Kevin Seitzer, who I loved his style of hitting at the time. Pretty neat how things work out considering my son is about as big a Braves fan as I am.

I think this will make a big difference in our approach at the plate.

Fredi said texts he's received from former players regarding Seitzer have said, "Great hire. We loved him. He changed our career."

I like the hire but I'm not going to get crazy over a hitting coach. I'm sure they help slightly but I think for the most part you can either hit or you can't.

Does it matter who the hitting coach is when we still have FG?

Seriously.

Fredi doesnt make our lineup hit like ****, stop it with this nonsense.

Fredi puts the lineup out there, he cant magically wave a magic wand and make them hit, the hate you guys give Fredi is borderline crazy, hell it is.
