Kimbrel/Melvin Trade Thread

As good as Kimbrel is, i really wonder how he'll age.

The last 2-3 years and maybe the next 1-2 are about as good as he'll ever be.

He cant be like Mo who basically has 1 pitch and still dominates, once he loses some velocity on his fastball, he wont be the insane pitcher he is.

Call it spin all you want but whatever.

He's a short power-pitcher and that always give me pause. Kimbrel has proven me wrong thus far (and may well continue to), but it's something to think about.

I agree it doesnt make SD THAT much better, and they did pay alot for him.

They better at least make a playoff series in the next 2 years, they've added a ton, high expectations.

So if you think of Upton as a complete non-entity to the future of our club... The deal is:

Kimbrel

for

Maybin (an upgrade in CF)
Wisler (a top pitching prospect)
The other dude
41st pick in next year's draft
$54M in salary (2-3 big-time impact players)

No brainer

Plus trading Kimbrel likely gives us a better pick in next year's draft as well. Bumps us maybe a few spots.

People are emotionally attached to Kimbrel because he's often the last thing they see when the Braves win a game. He was a fan favorite, but put all that aside and it's a no brainer. I love this trade... Both teams get what they want

I'm not blowing smoke when I say that the Braves got Kimbrel's best. Would be shocked if he puts up two more full years of invincibility.

They'll certainly have the money for them, whether or not they do that is a better question.

But it makes sense to go for them.

Braves have to have a payroll of 80 something million. Even with arby players we're under. Only way I see us getting to about 90M without adding a big FA or a few middling guys is if we have Cahill coming back.

Doesn't matter. He'll still be the best closer in the game.

Not that I think this is a bad move, I don't.

So did Pedro Ciriaco, Eric Young Jr and Joe Benson for the Braves.

Well we got his best cause I can't imagine him being any better than he was in 11 and 12. They were 2 of the best seasons a reliever could have been put up.
