Kimbrel/Melvin Trade Thread

I guess I'll be the one who says it. It was his worst move. BJ Upton signing made sense in that he was talented and we needed a CF. Chris Johnson is not very talented and we didn't need a 3b, because we already had Chris Johnson. I mean we had absolutely no reason to sign him, because we already had him.

Fair enough, I can agree to that.

I would go Into Her Woods

I like this trade. Will miss CK.

My only issues with the off season:
1. markakis......wtf?
2. not a single elite prospect. we shipped off 1 year of JUp and Heyward. Multiple years of Gattis and CK. Lots of guys. But not one guy who is consensus 1/2 starter or projected above avg regular position players.
3. Lots of picks in a draft that people don't think is that good, right? I know each draft finds all stars, but it's not like there are no doubters where we pick

Continuing to troll Chopcountry.com, Matheny rolls out Walden in the 8th.

1.0 0 0 0 1 2

And the ESPN crew does their part by acting like they've never seen Walden before, and only mentioning his time in Los Angeles.

This is actually a great summary

"Once you eliminate the extraneous parts, here’s the essence of the Sunday's trade — the Padres bought Craig Kimbrel from the Braves for $53.35 million, two prospects and the 41st pick of the June draft."

I know we have a plan. But I won't lie, watching our stars leave is depressing.

And seeing Heyward in a Cardinals uni makes me sick to my stomach.

Pretty sure my Chipper Jones bobble head is better than the 2015 Braves...

Not fair assessment, as a healthy chunk of that is Kimbrel's salary.

So I'd say they bought Kimbrel from the Braves for 27 ish million, 2 prospects and the 41st pick.

After some time to digest this trade (and some Krystals) I am left feeling sick. Mostly due to the Krystals, but I digress.

As I sit here on my toilet, many thoughts run through my head (among them, why the Hell did I eat Krystals?!?!). Kimbrell was right there with Freeman and Mac recently, as most beloved Braves. Not that I had anything against Heyward, Gattis, or Justin. I was partly sad to see those guys go as well. But their losses didn't hit me as hard.

I get the trade. I really do. It frees up a ton of cash, mostly from Upton who was dead weight. I also understand Kimbrell will never get any better than he is now and that his value will never be higher. The prospects we received are legit. And Maybin possibly has a little value as well.

Even while knowing all that, I still am left with an unpleasant feeling. May be it's just the Krystals....

justin shouldn't have any real emotions for leaving. He was around for a super short time.

Jason should, Gattis maybe because of his fun backstory. Kimbrel stings, but Jason to me is for sure the biggest loss emotionally or otherwise.

Freeman hasn't hit that level yet, but he'll be there. Kimbrel was right behind Freeman.

I know it sucks Braves Country, but once u decide to rebuild, u better go all the way. U now have a ton of minor league talent that (cont.)

Is on the verge of being major league talent. U now have 4 picks in the top 54 picks in this years draft. AND u now have flexibility (cont.)

In ur payroll to be able to compete on the free agent market if u so desire. It's gonna take some time, but I think what John Hart is (cont)

Doing, will again, make the Braves a contender for a long time. We got away from what made us, the Braves! John Hart is getting it back.
