Kimbrel/Melvin Trade Thread

Almost sounds force fed from Chipper. Like the line was scripted straight from someone in the FO.

May be I'm just jaded.

I guess Jason and Justin didn't hurt as bad cause I had already come to terms that at least one of them was gone, if not both. Players (especially young ones) who are only 1 yr away from FA, seldom sign extensions.

While I enjoyed Gattis' time here, I was not upset to see him go. Perhaps I felt a little resentment in that he played a key role in forcing Mac (my favorite player) out the door.

I really felt like Kimbrell was our special gift as fans. A guy we drafted and developed. And someone who competely dominates his position like no other. Potentially a future HOFer. Some one from this area who showed more than a feigning interest of being here for the long haul (not necessarily a slight towards Heyward, just in case you are wondering).

Do well on the west coast Craig. You will be remembered fondly. Hopefully the baseball God's smile down on the franchise and we see your return somewhere down the road.

It was the right move to make but it still hurts as a fan. Whats the difference between winning 65 games and 75 games, just a worse draft pick. This move reeks of desperation on the Padres part and I really like our end of the deal. Wisler is the pitcher we should have gotten back in the first Upton trade. I like getting that #41 draft pick. Atleast the Braves are giving us a ton of prospects to keep tabs on in the minors. I remember when almost every day we had a top pitching prospect pitching. This year it might be 2+ a day.

I have never experienced an offseason like this before. I live and breath 2 teams in all of sports and they both trade everything not nailed down the same offseason.

Cueto isnt Felix/Kershaw/Bumgarner, etc, but when healthy he's a legit #1.

If we could sign Cueto that would be great we would have our # 1 and how good does Julio look as a #2 instead of a #1. also moveS Wood to 3 and Miller to 4. Hate losing Kimbel. so who's the closer Grilli or Johnson? Is Simmons now the closer of the future?

Yep the 9th inning is overrated. Those GM's like Cashman, Schuerholz and all the other considered greats of the game are so stupid for paying those 9th inning guys those big bucks. You should have their jobs

That was the problem in the 90s JS wouldn't spend on the pen. How many years did it take to replACE Wohlers after he stopped being able to throw strikes? I would say he wasn't replaced until Smoltz went to the pen.

I guess I'll be the one who says it. It was his worst move. BJ Upton signing made sense in that he was talented and we needed a CF. Chris Johnson is not very talented and we didn't need a 3b, because we already had Chris Johnson. I mean we had absolutely no r. eason to sign him, because we already had him.

Kinda the same deal with Uggla. The extensions are what hurt not the trades.

I know he isn't popular around these parts but Bill Shanks has had made some strong remarks following this trade about how the organization was run recently. If true (and its the story I want to believe) then it really is a shame how things happened.

Rocker was wedged in there before his meltdown. Flake or not, the dude was lights out when he was on.

what did he say?

How Bobby would still probably br managing if not for Wren and that he had McGuirks ear for all these moves while JS and Cox were telling him not to. Again, convenient story after the fact but I'll choose to believe what I want and so will others and since there is no way to know the truth then we will never know.

Makes sense as to what Chipper said as well about getting back to the Braves way.

I know what the responses are going to be my some on this board but for myself I'm looking forward to the full old guard steering the ship moving forward. this draft and minor league year is going to be great to follow.

I loved the old front office (and especially our old manager) and rarely disagreed with them. If even the bit about Cox is true, I am happy Wren is gone. But I am also disappointed that SOMEONE who supported Wren through all of this is still in control. Same is true about Fredi.

Bill SHanks was one of the ones leading the charge on firing Bobby as I recall.

I severely doubt that if Wren had all the power people seemingly make himout to have that he would have hired Fredi Gonzalez. That move reeks of JS. Wren is a convenient whipping boy. But everything that happened to me implicates Cox/JS. KJ was cut when Cox wouldn't play him. Tex had to have a MLB 1B come back cause of Cox. Uggla extension reeks of JS. Maybe not the BJ signing, but going for the toolsy player over the safer bets, that sounds like old school Braves.
