Kyle Wright Injury

Every FA pitcher has their warts. I actually like Nola better than any other options. Maybe he wont put up the best ERA of all of them but he is the best bet to actually be pitching. If we could sign one FA starter I would go with Yamamoto, if we want to sign one but not spend 200 million then Nola is my favorite. He might simply just replace Morton but with pitching injuries these days I am more than okay with a durable innings eater.

Nola reminds me of when Madison Bumgarner hit free agency and landed a huge deal with the D-Backs. Bumgarner was entering is age 30 season, Nola will be entering age 31. Bumgarner's FIP in his last year with the Giants was 3.90, Nola's this year was 4.03. The big difference is that Nola was legitimately excellent last year and Bumgarner had been knocking around in the 3.90 range of FIP for a couple years before he went FA.

All that to say, I expect Nola to land a Bumgarner like deal and I want no part of that.

I feel like a lot of teams have learned lessons since/because of that contract. I don’t think Nola will get some monster deal. MadBum also had the playoff success.
