The DEA started holding hearings on rescheduling marijuana from schedule 1 to 3. Now to be clear this is not about whether you think marijuana is good or bad. Its about appropriately placing the drug on the CSA scheduling. Marijuana is currently schedule 1 which is reserved for the most dangerous drugs with no medicinal value like heroin, LSD, ecstasy, and bath salts. Given that Marijuana is used for medical reasons in over half the country, Canada, and the federal government currently operates a medical marijuana program there is no legitimate argument it should be schedule 1. The prohibition was created thanks to the deep state using fake news. The head of the bureau of prohibition named Harry Anslinger at the time alcohol prohibition was ending was about to be out of a job so he ghost wrote a bunch of articles blaming Marijuana for various violent crimes. Most notably a case in Florida where a young kid murdered their family with an axe while they slept. His fake news campaign created the myth of Reefer Madness. During hearings in 1933 he used these fake new stories he ghost wrote as evidence. When the AMA director accurately point out these were not proof of anything he was kicked out of the hearings. As a result Marijuana was not criminalized they simply made a tax that was impossible to pay thus making it illegal. 30 years later this would be ruled unconstitutional but by this point the deep state had spent billions indoctrinating the public
Now this has all happened before. The Controlled Substances Act had a mechanism to appeal scheduling placement. A group called NORML filed an appeal. The DEA told them to get bent. NORML sued and the courts told the DEA they had to honor the appeals process. The DEA again refused. So NORML sued again and won. The DEA told them to get bent for a third time. NORML sued again and won. This took over 10 years. So the DEA finally honored the appeals process and hearings began in 1986 before administrative Judge Francis L Young. In 1988 the Judge ruled that marijuana should not be a schedule 1 drug. The head of the DEA told him to get bent and refused to honor the ruling. And that was the end of that.
From what I have seen Trumps DEA nominee has supported decriminalization so I hope history wont repeat itself here.
