Let's play ball again! 1. ST game vs. Detroit

You wouldn't want him out there on days they are trying to give him a break from catching?

Its going to be hard enough for him to catch 125 games and be rested. You want him adding a few games in the field too?

My thought was that since we have both Laird/Doumit that we can have Gattis ease into an everyday catching role and have him catch around 100 games and put him in LF 10-20 times and maybe when Freeman needs a day off you put in at 1B. I think we are all going to want Gattis bat in the lineup as much as possible.

At the very least, I hope he is the bat off the bench when he isn't catching. With Laird and Doumit, we should use him for a PH all the time.

If Gattis is going to be the primary catcher then he needs to be rested the same way all primary catchers are rested. Doumit should not be behind the plate unless an injury occurs during a game.

Fair enough...I just figured that we might want to ease him into an everyday catcher role.

Yeah, if Gattis catches 120-125 games, i dont see how you can play him at LF too.

I can MAYBE see a couple starts for Freeman.

Other than that....

My only concern is if BJ sucks again. Would you consider going to Gattis in lf w Heyward in cf, like last yr? Have Doumit catch full time?

Fredi Gonzalez has already said that the plan is for Gattis to catch around 110 games with Laird getting 50 or so starts and Doumit getting the leftover handful.

So what about the game ?

Sorry, I had to punch out. It's 5-4 Braves in the 7th, afaik.

Mejia scored on an error, Constanza scored on a SF by Cunningham in the 7th.

Mejia 2-2
Uggla 2-2
LaStella 1-1

5-4 Braves, top 8. Jaime pitching for the Braves. 1 on (E3) 1 out.

Shae Simmons on to pitch the 9th. Four pitch walk to start.

Bunt single, sac, RBI, groundout, 2-rbi single, single, runner out 8-2. 6-5 Tigers, headed to bottom 9.

rain delay with two outs in the bottom of the 9th if MLB.com is to be trusted. Some minor league pitchers had really bad days, or innings, as it was.

Breaking down the box:

Uggla's 2-for-2 speaks well towards his being ready to be Comeback Player of the Year

LaStella had a hit, but also had an error on a dropped throw; he will have to prove himself on defense this spring

Before we dismiss Buchter's performance, consider how he finished: three straight outs after allowing rhe run, striking out the last two on six pitches.

Shae Simmons: not ready, certainly. Send him back early and give him time to find his confidence as AAA closer.

Like seeing the stolen bases, especially Heyward taking third in a feet-first slide.

Jaime was strong, but he pitched throughout the winter. If he strings a couple of these together, maybe he can break through.

We need to include Tyler Greene in the mix for final infield job, even though we are figuring him for insurance. Pena also picked up where he left off.
