Let’s play the guessing game

What’s everybody’s prediction for the trade deadline? The obvious holes are bullpen and probably a SP. You don’t have to guess what AA will give up to acquire who your guess is.

I’ll say Boyd and Green

I remember your prediction of AA waiting until near Spring Training to acquire Realmuto. :FrediConfident:

I’ll predict AA doesn’t pay the consolidated cost to acquire a SP/BP package from a team.

He will use spare parts to acquire one or both.

I say Smith and no SP because AA realizes he can piggyback guys to achieve the same or better results any available SP would produce.

I really wish we'd do the piggyback idea. Are you just hoping for this or is there any evidence to support it?

Rays piggybacking their way for a perfect game thru 8.

would be thrilled.

A hope based on the fact that the Braves have a ton of arms that can go multiple innings and aren’t being trusted to pitch a full SP workload. They seem to be uniquely positioned to deploy all these arms in a creative and effective way, whether it’s piggybacking, openers, or something I’m not smart enough to think of on my own.

I agree with Scheff i dont think AA goes for a SP and RP on the same team given the cost.

I think he adds a SP, not sure who, i would guess he adds a bullpen arm too but not sure who either.

My guess would be Wheeler or Stroman, and one of the Giants BP arms.

If we go after a starter my guess would be Wheeler. I like the piggy back idea better than going after a starter.

My reliever pick would be Greene but he's really an AL guy(doesn't know NL hitters as well as I would like). A NL guy would be Smith but the over pay would be huge.

Smith has been great, but he's a rental. Sans Chapman, not many RP's on the last years of their deals go for that much. I think at most he'd maybe cost a guy like Wilson or Muller, with filler, nothing more than that.

I predict AA will get a few minor pieces but nothing major. It won't be from lack of trying or inability. I just think everyone will want Pache, Waters, Anderson, or Wright and AA (likely correctly) won't be willing to deal them. The next tier of guys, who we would deal, just won't get major deals done.

Guys like Wilson, Muller, Wentz, Allard, etc, can get rentals.

Dealing with the Giants would dictate the demand. That demand goes up with with each team that enters the bidding contest. Smith will garner what the Giants want from some club like the BoSox, Nats or even the Yanks. Remember, the Giants don't need to trade him.
