Lets say..

I know Stanton has a big deal but if I could send Kemp in a deal for him I'd be all over it. Something like Kemp, Allard, and Dustin Peterson for Stanton. He can opt out after 2020 and I could see him doing it if he knows he can get a longer deal or more money.

Why would the Marlins do that?

You may very well be right on target.... but that opt out (or not) is a huge risk for a team like the Braves to take on.

The way salaries are going up and the new standard that Harper and Machado will set will make it very intriguing for a guy like Stanton to opt out and test the waters at only 30 years old. But if he doesn't opt out then I'd be fine with that to with all the cheap talent we would have.

Why would the Marlins do that?

Bc they are the Marlins and they want that contract gone to sell the team. Kemp is only signed for 2 more years. So they'd save around 5 million a year for the next couple of years till Kemps salary is off the books. It's no guarantee that Stanton will opt out and the Marlins don't wanna be stuck with it.

If they are really wanting to trade him, someone will offer more than a terrible contract, and 2 decent prospects

Would you give up $5 to get $20 back? It's a nobrainer if they wanted out of it bc nobody is gonna absorb the entire contract. Ain't happening. And Allard is far from decent.

I'd feel good about 1B, 2b, SS, LF, CF, RF and C if those are FF, Ozzie, Swanson, Peterson, Inciarte, Acuna and Flowers.

I've said before that I think we could afford to keep Kemp and Neck on the bench. I think it would be nice to use Neck for the first month or two to keep down Acuna's service time and not rush so much.

I'd rip up Flowers' extension if he'd let me double his salary at the expense of two team options for 8 million and 10 million.

I think I'd ride a young Staff and know I'd have mistakes:
Folty
Tehran
Newcombe
Sims
Dickey....after 2 months the best of Wright/Allard/Soroka takes this spot and Dickey goes to long man save innings on Newcombe, Sims, young guy.

I haven't done all of that math. I think there is money left over.

I know ppl have said it won't happen but I'm looking for a high annual value pillow option guy or a guy who is still good but not worth his money guy. I'm trying to see if I can convince Boras that Moose signing for 2/40 plus a team option is a win b/c he gets high money per year, is betting on himself and worse case he's a FA at 30. I'm trying to see if I can get Chase Headley for nothing. I've got to find a way to do better at 3B.

I'd also look at front line starters on the pillow deal if I can't get a 3B. Maybe a guy like Arrietta would take a 1/2 year deal to up his value and move on.

I would not sign anyone on this FA market to a deal longer than 3 years. Ideally not longer than 2.

did the guy who called Josh Donaldson "garbage" just accuse people of not understanding things

Yes. The fanboy sunshine blowers than make up 90% of this place would rather have a team of unknown prospects than have a proven veteran. They think that just because you are under a certain age then you must be good.

I suspect you already know this, but....

"Proven veterans" have a shorter shelf-life and a higher price tag. Good young players are much more valuable than "proven veterans" of similar productivity because they allow a team to determine where they need to spend money rather than spreading it out across the whole team.

But... I suspect you already know all that.

The key being good young players. The Braves just want young players. They don't care how they perform.
