A very interesting article that if true and happens, would give the Braves a huge financial boost.

Small snipet from article

The DOJ will approve the sale provided that Disney divest itself of a specific portion of the Fox universe: their Regional Sports Networks (RSNs)… 22 of them.

Among the networks that would be part of this spinoff sale are the very networks that the Braves are contracted with for broadcast of the vast majority of their games: FOX Sports South and FOX Sports Southeast.

It seems that Disney is finding it difficult to locate buyers for this enterprise, though, and that is leading to an interesting possible competition.

According to Awful Announcing, two of the more prominent bidders remaining now are Major League Baseball itself and Liberty Media – the parent company of the Braves.

If Liberty did buy all the Fox RSN, I wonder what the chances are they would have to sell the Braves. This is something to watch.

I can't see any way this turns into a positive for the Braves. Liberty is more likely to use the Braves to make their sports network more profitable than the other way around.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but Liberty's record to date shouldn't give any of us confidence that this will be the case.

I have faith in the project they are developing. Population growth trends are positive in the south and while we may have to endure sub-par payrolls of the foreseeable future the revenue growths are positive and will eventually turn into positive EBITDA that can be reinvested in talent on the field. Similar to building a baseball team after a tear down you invest in things like the minor leagues which has no impact on the major league team. This is another avenue so that at some point in the next 5-10 years there is a bigger bag of cash to play with on a consistent basis.

5-10 years in commercial real estate is not a safe bet. Too many variables that could drive that into debt. It is hard to maintain that lure for so long. Especially when they are not investing in the biggest draw to the battery.

Amazon and the Yankees are going after the YES network for 3.5 billion. That’s a lot of money for A RSN
