Lol Bud Norris

I mean, you said it in so many words yourself ... who cares?

Our team sucks. And signing Bud Norris doesn't make anything better. It just adds insult to injury. Salt to the wound.

Do you follow?

It doesn't add insult to injury. Yes, our team does suck. And it is going to suck in 2016 and probably won't be a ton better in 2017. That is reality and something that has to be accepted at this point.

Knowing that, adding a player for the purpose of attempting to be better in 2016 and 2017 would be misguided. We're still trying to stockpile as much talent as possible, and this is a cheap signing that could turn into more long-term talent. It's a smart move given where we are.

I am beginning to think the braves front office has about as much a game
plan of how to put a winning team on the field as Barack Obama has of stopping ISIS.

The goal is not to compete in 2016 or really even 2017. I don't know how many times this needs to be stated.

Yet the plan was sold to the fan base as putting competitive teams on the field through the process, I certainly see no signs of that, and I see nothing future wise of being able to compete till 2019 at the earliest. A new stadium might look good but how are you suppose to sell a bad team to the people who are going to have to pay a bunch to get those tickets?

The notion that this team's poor and contrary player personnel decisions are something that fans must 'accept' is precisely the type of brainwashed delusion I referenced in my original post. Sure, it's reality, but that doesn't mean that I have to like it or support it under the convoluted guise of 'it's going to make us better in the future' or 'what else were we going to spend the money on?'

I am afraid to many here are too young to have witnessed the Braves of the 80s ..... something I hoped never to see again but seems to be our current future. I am too dang old to be satisfied with something that "might" work out 4 or 5 years down the road.

Well, but again, my point is that like it or not, we find ourselves in the present reality. So given that, this is the type of move we should be making right now. It makes no sense for us to pretend that isn't reality and spend a bunch of money trying to win games now.

I'm not saying you have to agree with the overall direction of the organization right now, but this single deal is a smart move given that direction.

This is kind of what I'm saying. In no way do I think people should be jumping for joy because we signed Bud Norris...I understand fans' frustrations. But this move in and of itself is fine.

Yeah, I agree. It's good. It's pretty smart, arguably. I'm just past the point of patting the FO on the back for making competent low-risk moves. I did it last year. I'm not sure if I have another one in me.

Probably means we are going to trade a pitcher soon.

Miller/Teheran

Norris

Wisler

Folty/Man-Ban/Webber

Sims(my dark horse for the 5 spot)

I had this thought too

Technically we are telling ppl Miller,Tehran, wisler, folty, Norris.

I think we may try to sign another mid level starter too.

Miller or Tehran is gone.

In the event that Folty can't throw strikes (likely the case), Banuelos can't stay healthy (certainly possible), Perez and/or Weber regress (again certainly possible) and you don't want to start Jenkins', Newcomb's, or Sims' clocks before they're mentally ready to have their brains beat in, a couple signings like this are a must.

At least one of Shelby or Julio WILL be moved, and count me as one who thinks there's a better than 50-50 chance BOTH are traded by the break (if not by Opening Day).

I remember when the braves had fun, exciting players for fans to watch, like Heyward, Upton, Simmons, Wood, Kimbrel...

I assume they all left for more money though.

At least we get to watch Markakis, Ayabar, AJP, and Bud Norris... very exciting for the fan base

Amazing signing. Will be the best move off the entire off season. Very under the radar signing for a stud pitcher. I alread have his nickname. Bud the stud!

He's a competitor that was pissed he went to the pen last year. That's exactly the temperment of a one year signing that you want. Like the move.

Folks grumping about this move are just grumpy people. This is actually a really good signing. There's some Jaret Wright type of upside with this signing.

This signing in no way, shape, or form sets the Braves up to trade Miller or Teheran. One more MOR guy will have to be signed if either of those guys is traded.
