Looking Ahead - The 2020 Offseason Thread

Absolutely no reason to bring Jackson back. Same applies to Camargo. No one agrees with my premise that Duvall should be traded rather than bring in a platoon partner for him. Pederson should be cheap enough if he can be had then simply move Riley to LF against LH starter play your backup infielder.

Evan Dreiliech article in the Athletic today is worth reading if you need info/insight into possibilities for next season.

Seeing the declines options it seems like relievers might be on sale, which is a little odd given where the game is going.

The Braves big money to Smith and Martin in that environment might now seem ineffficient though Covid wasn't predictable.

Renewing an investment in deep pen might be a good play.

I am curious what the deals for position players look like.

I wouldn't think this would be a great market for the likes of Stroman.

Gonna be shorter deals at lower AAV. Probably ought to investigate those opportunities and if anyone of note would sign such a deal in this uncertain climate.

you're not going to get anything of value for Duvall. no one is fooled by what he is.

Luke Jackson is worth no more than the minimum in this environment, I would think.

While he's been approaching good in the past, he didn't merit the postseason roster. I'd be surprised if he's retained in the end.

Really just depends on what's out there and what better Pitchers will accept. The organization at least views him as "better" than the other 6th inning/mop-up guys they have, or he wouldn't have been kept in 2020.

From the looks of things at this point, AA might just strike gold by getting Melancon back at O'Day's rate and Greene back at Jackson's rate - really hard to tell at this point. The problem he (and every other GM) will have is it's always dangerous to play chicken with free-agents - it usually only takes one crazy owner to OK his GM splurging. With the Mutts situation, it's pretty easy to see them looking at a market as depressed as this one is and just tell all the top guys to call them when they've gotten everybody else's best offer and then beat each offer by $500,000-$1 million.

Do you seriously think that Melancon or Greene would come back for Jackson money?

I know Lester is from Atl, but I can't imagine we'd do anything more than give him the same opportunity we gave Felix this year. He's been bad for 2 seasons now.

I'd like to see us bring in one of the following (in order by my personal rankings):

Stroman
Morton
Paxton
Kluber
Minor
Walker
Quintana
Odorizzi
Ray

Tigers have signed Hinch. Saw a list of 25 possible players going up to trade. Bryant and Seager only ones mentioned as possible Braves targets. Wil Myers was listed.

Kluber had major shoulder surgery last season so he will likely miss most of this season....We'd have to sign him for 2 years....

Article on MLBTR yesterday says he's been cleared for normal off-season routine. He should be a go for ST assuming no set backs. Obviously, there's risk there, which is why he's further down the list despite having probably the best upside among any of the group.

It would be interesting how much Archer and Quintana would cost. You could sign both and hope one bounces back and the other is 5th starter level.

My bad, could have sworn he had surgery....still think he ends up back with the Rangers, BUT i'd definitely be interested if the price was right
