Looking Ahead - The 2020 Offseason Thread

Pat Ragazzo of Metsmerized reports that the Mets did recently "check in" on Shane Greene.
Having lost Seth Lugo to elbow surgery, the Mets' desire to supplement their bullpen might be heightened. The club did lose out on Trevor Rosenthal, but they're in on Greene and reportedly Jeremy Jeffress, as they mull their options. Greene has posted a 2.39 ERA over the last two seasons, although his strikeouts were down notably in 2020.

Lamb and Kipnis are reasonable gambles. Give them a chance in spring training to show they still have something left in the tank.

Starting to look like Ozzie might be the backup shortstop, which is an idea I like.

Not a bad gamble. Capable of good numbers and power against RH if he's healthy. I would rather see another good bench player added so Lamb being successful isn't key, but I like it if he was cheap.

Sounds like Camargo, PANDA, Kipnis and Lamb will duke it out for 2 or 3 bench spots. My money is on the PANDA Express!

Pairing Jake Lamb at 3b with the guy projected to be the RHH version of Jake Lamb is poetic.

We have to hope the healthy 50 PAs he posted with the As is more indicative of what he can do than his last few injury plagued seasons with the DBacks.

59 bombs in 2016-17, All-Star in 17. Below avg defense. If he can get back to his pre-injury(s) self, then it could be a nice pickup. Not too worried about his defense at this point just need his bat to come back to life off the bench and spell Riley in the field on occasion. I am ok with this signing.

Wonder if the fact that Lamb got a major league deal means AA expects the DH to be approved? Ozuna DHing with Riley moving to LF and Lamb and Camargo platooning at 3B would certainly help the offense.

Will believe they're going to use Ozzie as the backup SS when we see it, but the Lamb addition at least gives you the flexibility to make Riley a strict platoon guy (if the need arises) regardless of where he plays since Kipnis would probably be OK in LF until Waters is ready (or someone else becomes available during camp).

Also wonder if this could spell the end for Camargo - they've now picked up much stronger LH platoon bats at both 2B and 3B, and I can't imagine there's support within the organization to keep him around in case you need a SS. He and Mayfield are the likeliest options to be released to clear a spot for Lamb, and Mayfield's supposedly a better defensive option at SS.

Kipnis and Lamb aren't great signings, but they add a bit of depth and upside to the bench, and would seem to lower the chance that the bench is just a catastrophic train wreck of .220/.280/.300 hitters.

If AA knows something about the DH coming to the NL and responded by singing Lamb, I’m disappointed. If Ozuna moves to DH, the Braves need a real OF addition.

Surely this is milb contract, right? Wouldn't think this would affect another move

Not much out there to choose from at the moment.

Since Kipnis is on a minor league deal, I guess you could sign Puig to platoon with Riey in LF if Lamb/Camargo was the 3B platoon.
