I think we need to keep Freeman, but I agree about the other 3. I would shop all of them. Don't give them away but someone will pay the premium for them at some point when they lose a pitcher to TJ or decide to go all in like say the Padres this year.

I have been saying this for a good part of the season. However, I think you keep Simmons as he should have value for the Braves when acquiring FA pitching, is still relatively cheap and has room to improve with the bat but if it doesn't you don't really lose any trade value.

I just really REALLY don't understand all the infatuation with Lucroy. He's a FA after 2017. He's been hurt this year. A lot. While he IS cheap in salary for 16 and 17 he would not be to extend, even as a 32 YO catcher. That says nothing about what the Braves give up to acquire him.
I just don't see how he moves the needle.

I'd not be against keeping any of the 4 the length of their contract. But the second we can get a pair of top prospects for Simmons we need to do it. He's a very good player, but not someone you build your franchise around.

I agree with your assessment with the exception that I strongly think the Braves should play in the top end FA SP market this offseason for many reasons (meaning sign Price or Greinke to anchor the rotation for 6-7 years) and having Simmons around would likely make that easier to do.

I'd love to get price. My offseason signing wishlist is something like
1. Price
2. Heyward
3. Justin
4. Greinke
Not that I would hate Greinke mind you, I just love Price over him that much and if we can't have Price, I'd look at Jason and Justin as FA (even if the FO won't) then look at Greinke. I would almost bet money that Greinke won't leave LA though.

I think we'll kick the tires on Price and Cueto. Neither is eligible for a QO. But demand for those two is going to be very strong. It won't be a James Shields type situation since both are younger and don't have the QO issue. I just don't see us being able to outbid other teams for those two. If we were a contending team, Price might have been willing to come to us even without our being the high bidder. But I don't think our current situation will be appealing to him.

We won't have the most money to offer or the best situation to offer. He's making himself a lot of money right now, too, pitching as well as he is in the AL, and in Toronto.
We're probably better off. I'm not sure a team with our payroll should be sinking so much money into one player (pitcher).
I agree with you for the most part. After the Olivera trade, but before the Swisher/Bourn trade, acquiring Lucroy might have made sense if the team was trying to win in 2016. Swapping CJ for Swisher/Bourn pretty much eliminated all serious hopes of contention in 2016 because those 2 players are taking up so much of the payroll next year that there isn't enough money to add enough new talent.
But, if they had upgraded 3B with Olivera, signed a MOR FA SP, and somehow fixed LF (maybe with Braun coming over in the Lucroy trade), I could see a deal for Lucroy making sense.
Now? Not so much.

He would be a nice addition if we were trying to win. It's unusual and uncomfortable for us to get used to any other objective. Since we don't care, playing Bethancourt is our best option.

That trade doesn't matter at all. We just fast forwarded a year of money. We could have done that with an accounting entry.

So you want people to completely ignore 2 of the better FA's this year simply because they used to be on the team and it's been talked about a lot?
The simple truth is the Braves are very unlikely to get any of the top tier FA's this year. So any talk about the Braves getting any of them is likely pointless. But what fun is that? The other simple truth is 95% of things posted on here are pointless (just like your post above) but you and others still do it. So let's continue to post pointless posts.

3) You should be thankful that I post here. Someone has to keep the denizens in line when things like 'no strikesouts = better offense' and other nonsense is brought up.
Except the problem is that it’s never been shown that either of those two improves their teams. Part of the reason why they’ve parted ways.

Yes. Heyward and Upton don't improve their teams at all. If you actually think that then there is really no hope for you.
There were plenty of people on here at the start of the year who celebrated the depature of the strikeout guys because apparently strikeouts are bad for offense.
The Pads were supposed to cause some serious damage with Justin this year. Well, see how that turned out. A case could be made that the Cards would’ve been just fine this year without Jason.
Well, here’s what we can do to put the issue to the test. Since you’re so adept with numbers, compare how SD & STL end up next year without them vs. how they were this year with them.
That sounds like something that my buddy, Zito, would’ve instigated. Nevertheless, it may seem somewhat simplistic on the surface. If batters are swinging at air, instead of getting on base, they can’t prepare to score runs. So, it’s not completely unfounded either.
