Looking towards 2025

It would be surprising if he got less than Bae considering the SS market is incredibly thin.

I'm would wager he gets around 6/180

I dont see Adames getting 30 per.

I mean he's like the only legit SS on the market. I dont think he'd get 6/180 but it's not totally out of the realm of possibility after the season he just had. I dont know if AA would hand out that kind of deal. But he was deep in on Nola last year so who knows.

All the teams with money need a SS. Dodgers need a SS to move Betts back to the OF. Yankees need a SS. Red Sox need a SS. Giants probably need a SS. And of course the Brewers want to retain him.

He'll have the best market behind Soto.

6 years 150 million seems like a very conservative price for him. Probably will be the starting price to just get into the bidding war. We dont really know if the player will prioritize Average yearly value or length of contract. I could see someone going as high as 8 years 200 million on a lengthy deal or even 6 years 180 million. I think he is just a landmine of a free agent someone is going to step on. I would still be all kinds of excited if we signed him simply because he is atleast a good bet to perform for 1-2 years before going Melvin on his new team. Imagine if we signed this dude and he played like Arcia in the first half. And I dont mean Arcia when he is almost an average hitter, I mean slumping Arcia.

Looking at his numbers, good power numbers. Low OBP, but he's a terrific defensive player. But as someone else has said, lot of teams need SS, and he's like the only one on the market. I dont know if AA would pay what it'd take for him though. 6/150 feels low with as many teams in need of a SS. 6/180 feels like the floor.

Dansby got 7/177 and he's better than Dansby imo.

I like Adames but there’s gonna be a big bidding war for Adames since he’s the only guy worth it in the FA market. As soon as the WS ends go after Bichette as quick as you can and hopefully Toronto is up for trading him.

Let's switch gears and assume the bidding for Adames gets crazy and AA doesn't win. So we get to see Arcia at SS for $2M. Not awesome, but sometimes going cheap is the correct play.

Let's also assume AA then decides to focus on LF by trading Soler, letting Laureano walk, and slotting Kelenic as the 4th OFer with White as the 5th OFer.

What are the realistic LF options?

Tyler O'Neil? Crushes lefties. Should only get a 1 year deal but I wont be suprised if one of the dumb teams gives him more years,

Teoscar Hernandez? Probably requires a multi year deal around 20 mill per. 3 years is probably what he gets unless one of the dumb teams gets involved in the bidding.

Luis Robert Jr - I dont think he has as much trade value as many people believe. So many red flags one of the dumb teams will probably charge at like a bull. Not my favorite option but would atleast give us a qualify defensive OF...... when he actually plays.

Anthony Santander - Any GM who gives this dude a big contract should be fired before the ink is dry. Some dumb team with a bad offense in a bad offensive home park will sign him and be shocked when it blows up in their face.

Cody Bellinger - Cubs have way too many outfielders and I think they would be pretty happy to get out of the 27 million they will owe him in 2025. He would have to have a really bad 2025 to not opt out after. He is no doubt overpaid but I like that he doesnt have a huge platoon split and can play all 3 OF spots and 1B. Exactly what we need if we dont want a repeat of 2024 imo.

Jesse Winker - love the OBP hate the defense. Not really all that optimistic he repeats 2024 offensively.

Alex Verdugo - I dont know why we would but he is an option.

Jurickson Profar - I wouldnt bet on him repeating 2024.

Wilyer Abreu - He is a good lefty platoon bat with lots of service time. Red Sox are very LH heavy with several good LH hitting prospects coming up. Theres several LH bats they would rather trade but they have negative value because of their contracts and defensive situations.

Joc Pederson - I dont know that he is an upgrade defensively from Soler

Randall Grichuk - the cheffs favorite.

Mark Canha - old and had his worst season in years but has had 7 straight years with a 100+ RC.

Max Kepler - Really scraping the bottom of the barrell here.

Jason Heywood - Its an option......

Starling Marte - way overpaid but the Mets would probably be happy to see him go considering we know who they will go after this offseason.

Hunter Renfroe - If we just hate ourselves.

I for one would rather keep Soler than go with the alternatives in LF. Hernandez is the best option on the FA market outside of Soto (not happening) and Hernandez hasn't been much better of a defender than Soler. So it seems silly to trade Soler and sign basically the same guy for more money.

If we traded Soler then maybe Robert could be had packaging him with Crochet. I’m sure the White Sox would like to dump his money and start over. If the Cubs would eat a few million then Bellinger would be a good get bc he can play all 3 OF spots and back up 1b which we dont have right now. And no Ozuna taking ground balls at 1b doesnt count.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I feel like any available LFer is going to post the same 2-3 wins some combination of Soler/Kelenic/Laureano would provide in LF.

So my thoughts are AA stands pat in the OF and focuses on adding the best SP and SS he can afford. The answers for the OF are imperfect, but at least they exist. The answers for SS and SP are not even present. Anyone counting on more than 250 IP combined from Sale/Strider is a fool, and anyone who thinks the group of AAAA fodder arms contains the answer to fill the rotation simply hasn't been paying attention.

Crawford

Kim

Correa

Adames

Perdomo

That is the list for us. I suppose some other names could unexpectedly pop up. But overall, that is the list.

I also would not hate bringing back 1 of Urshela/Merrifield as a bench piece. Both guys will be dirt cheap, particularly Merrifield.

still curious to see what direction the Jays go in. I don't follow other teams much, but I know they had an awful year.. Bichette was Bi****te this year and they might want to dump his last season.

Bichette's BABIP was WAY down from his career norms: .269 compared to his .338 career mark. That being said his EV is also down a little bit and has been on the down trend since his max in 2022. I know he had injury issues this year and I'm wondering if that contributed to his EV decline which would also help explain his much lower ISO

Bichette isn't a terrible option either, but his defense has been rather suspect in the past.

I wouldn't call it suspect. He's been OK. He had 1 terrible season. 2022. Aside fromt hat he's been high or low.

If Toronto sold low on him I wouldn't hate it.
