Looking towards 2025

I wonder if the Albie's rumors are related to going after Crochet. White Sox reportedly want INF players in return. It doesn't really make sense they would want Albies but this is the White Sox we are talking about. But Ozzie is cheap. Maybe they just view him as a cheap marketable star to sell to their fans. I kind of shudder at the thought of what we would have to give up in that trade.

Arcia could always move over to 2nd for Adames to play SS. Albies is a big fan favorite and after losing guys the past 3 years they may not want to trade him. The Sox are gonna want Baldwin no doubt. A young stud catcher like that is hard to come by.

For what it's worth, the notion that second basemen tend to age poorly and fall off performance cliffs is an old trope I've heard basically since I started following baseball. The idea, as I understand it, is that second basemen take a lot of punishment at the bag, particularly on double play balls. And players at that position tend to be a little smaller and lighter than at other places on the field.

I have no idea if that's backed up by the data, so don't take description as endorsement*. But that's the theory.

*Some of you will absolutely take description as endorsement.

Clay Holmes reportedly drawing interest as a starter. I think thats us. Elite GB%. Was a SP not too long ago. Savant has him as a 3 pitch mix but slider and sweeper are so similar. We are trying to replace our own GB guy. Worst case we move him back to the pen.

Looks like Arcia will be SS again next season, unless Alex has another plan.

You may be right, but it is a bit early to be suggesting that AA is done.

I suspect that there are still a few moves yet to come, and some of them will be perplexing to those of us on the board.

At this point I’m starting to think they are trying to dip below the tax. The only guys worth clearing the payroll like AA has are Soto and Adames, and neither are coming to Atlanta.

I mean we really only need a LF'er/SP/bullpen depth. We can do that and still stay under the tax. But i think AA makes one splashyish move.

Feel like I can agree with this statement. We never seem to do anything at the winter meetings and Alex tends to do more of his heavy lifting early.

I kinda get the sense that what we might see happen is AA wait around until late in the off season to see if anyone of value over priced themselves and will have to settle for a contract he's comfortable with.

Looks like Holmes is going to get a shot to win a rotation spot, as per AA comments in recent DOB interview.
