Dang.. Braves can't even afford Old Man Mort now. Can't wait to watch the 15 Winans starts next year.
I don’t think Bowman knows what he’s talking about. His “don’t seem inclined” is pure speculation. My speculation is Morton’s asking price might be too high for what the Braves think he can/will contribute.
Braves selected RH reliever Anderson Pilar and SS Christian Cairo in the Rule 5 draft.
Christian Cairo is the son of former major league utility IF Miguel Cairo. Hasn't hit much as a professional, but looks like he can hold down SS.
Braves did not draft nor lose anyone in the Minor League phase of the Rule 5. Former Brave minor league pitcher Ricky Devito (traded to the Pirates along with Bryse Wilson for master of the sticky fingers Richard Rodriguez) was taken by Marlins off of the Rangers' AA roster.
RHP Blane Abeyta (Yankees, High-A)
RHP Samuel Mejia (Rays, Single-A)
SS Lizandro Espinoza (Cardinals, Single-A)
C Dylan Shockley (Pirates, Double-A)
BatteryPower has the following minor-league selections for the Braves:
They weren't listed at mlb.com.
My bad: I see they are listed. Didn't see them the first time through.
Were Cairo and Pilar taken in the Major League draft? Do we need to roster them or offer them back?
So Cairo and Pilar are getting a tryout. If they don’t make the MLB roster, then they are likely gone. Do either of them have a shot, or just camp fodder?
The team must think they have a shot to have drafted them.
I’d say Pilar has more of a shot than Cairo. Biggest downside of Pilar isn’t potential/likely performance, per se, it’s that he’s not optionable, as a Rule V pick, meaning he’s a lot less useful-valuable at his likely level of performance.

Now that we're having to scrape the bottom of the barrel, if we don't make a run at signing Kim... can Gleyber still play a decent SS? I haven't really followed his career arc that closely but has a decent bat. Don't know anything about his defense other than I think he was mainly a 2B recently?
Any chance Bregman can still play SS?
I saw DOB mention to keep an eye out for Profar in the OF... meh. I think my pick of all the known guys who are available for the OF would probably be Santander but he certainly doesn't excite me.
For SP, I'm more and more on the Walker Buehler train... seems like a good Braves reclamation pick. Maybe we can dream on Burnes... surprised his market has been so quiet.
Torres has been exclusively a 2B for years. He also sucks out loud.
