Lost prospects' stats (Ranking from Chase's Top 100)

Benjamin Chase recently posted his Top 100 Braves prospects; we dutifully reported the list here.

Here are the lost players, with Chase's ranking.

Kevin Maitan (5th overall): .241 average, 2 HR, 18 RBI, 2/2 SB, 19 K, 16 BB

Yunior Severino 2B (22nd): 58 G, 226 AB, 3-29-.270,

Yefri Del Rosario RHP (29th)

Yenci Pena SS (39th): 45 G, 160 AB, 2-19-.230, 7/13 SB

Juan Contreras (54th)

Yoeli Lopez OF (57th): 47G, 1532 AB, 1-12-.235, 11/14 SB

Livan Soto SS (59th), 47 G, 173 AB, 0-14-.225, 7/10 SB

Juan Carlos Negret OF (71st): 50 G, 170 AB, .264-2-10, 23 SB

Antonio Sucre OF (93rd): 57 G, `193 AB, 4-242-.237, 4/8 SB

Chase's list obviously overlook Abrahan Gutierrez, who was easily in the Braves' top 30-35 as a complete catcher: 35 G, 129 AB, 1-12-.264
 
In other words, one currently ranked Top 20 prospect. That was enough to get the "trade Freeman" and "trade Inciarte" posts back up. If Monday were really The Darkest Day in Braves History, then somebody like AA would've never wanted the job.

The real sting of last Tuesday will be felt 3 or 4 years from now when the loss of the 12 prospects and the international signing limitations will likely produce a shortage of depth in the system.

I agree with Hudson's approach and I wouldn't be surprised to see Anthropoulos try to obtain a couple of competitive balance picks.

I like the approach of piling up picks instead of the let’s trade Freeman and Inciarte talk. AA is a very good GM so i think he will get pretty creative to get past this.

Viz should be able to bring one back. Someone outside of our top 10 prospects would probably be intriguing also.

Why would the Braves trade a prospect so they can draft another prospect?

Taking on a bad contract in exchange for a comp pick might be viable.

The prospects lost are very young. Most of them would surely rise in the rankings as they moved through the system. Using their current ranking to estimate value is very misleading.

Of course it is...and it's not as if the effects would be felt immediately
"Oh, let's freak out on a message board, like we do about everything else!"

Somehow they'll weather the storm. The sun will still rise in the east

Precisely, not for 3 - 4 years out. Some of those 12 prospects were not prospects, just minor league players.

AA is already in operating mode without them as part of of the feeding lane. At the same time, it's not as if he's going to peak in with "I'd better see what Horsehide Harry thinks I should do."

Maybe Matt Adams to Minnesota for Phil Hughes, Brent Rooker and CB pick #75. Adams could DH, play some first for them. The Twins clear about $7M in 2018, $13.2M in 2019. Braves get something for Adams and fill one of the veteran starter roles they will look to fill this offseason.
 
How can anyone actually minimize the impact the international signing restrictions will have on the braves? We need every Avenue possible to compete with the big market teams. This really hurts.

Very few 17 year olds are listed as top prospects, but the talent was there. Add that to the fact that we will loose another THIRTY something players in the future...and yes...it’s a HUGE deal. Not for the next three years, but for the next five after that.
