MadduxFanII once stated that he does not lament The Adam Wainwright trade, and this is his thread to expound and expand!!

Those were the days. I always got along with Shanks, but I pretty much get along with everyone. I didn't like the crap he pulled on rico25 and the suspension of thewupk, but I appreciated the inside info he could provide that proved to be right more than wrong.

I still laugh--and maybe some of you were involved--is that we were in the chat room during the winter meetings and we hatched a plan to make up an outrageous fake trade made by the Braves and agreed we would announce the faux trade to the next person who entered the chat. The entrant just went crazy. He started checking all the sports sites and coming back and telling us he hadn't seen the deal. We pimped him for about 15 minutes adding the scope of the trade with some bemoaning the supposed deal and other expresisng some optimism. We told him that the trade was going to be announced shortly before finally fessing up. The guy got so pissed at all of us and stormed out (if you can storm out of a chat room). I don't know if he ever returned to the site. It was classic. Great improv by all involved. Everyone kept it realistic enough and no one tipped their hand.
I got banned for a very mild disagreement with him on whether or not the Screaming Indian logo was racist. I think the worst thing I said was that one particular statement he made was rather ignorant.

I then proceeded to log into all my alias accounts and blow him up the main board for the BS messages he sent me afterwards where he demanded I apologize if I wanted to post there again. I got IP banned, but luckily I was at my in laws, lol.

Right. But just forums overall are dying.

Discord is probably the bigger forum replacement.
It's because most people don't have the bandwidth to do multiple things. Which is fair. And forums don't give you the engagement enjoyment that twitter, facebook, etc. do.

He could be very heavyhanded. I wonder how many folks he did ban or suspend often over trivial matters.

I remember getting pretty pissed at what he did to rico25. There was the premium level and it was a pretty small group and rico25 was a part of it. rico25 would do his daily minor league wrap and he reported something that was public knowledge, but Bill insisted rico25 was sharing information from the behind the paywall to the non-paying group. I was baffled (not unusual).

Admittedly I always liked Bill although he definitely over valued a lot of prospects and was a bit old fashioned. He was personal friends with Snit long before Snot was the manager.

There were some fun times. I still remember the famed mystery player who I later learned was Zack Greinke and the big buildup to the Tim Hudson trade.

As far as Drew it wasn’t a shock he didn’t re-sign but he was depart good. I always thought we should have tried harder to keep Sheffield so we wouldn’t need to make the trade.

Elvis Andrus never did turn into Alex Rodriguez. From a couple of DMs we exchanged, Bill had some connections with the player development group and he seemed to get a lot of insider info from Roy Clark.

The kicker is we could have afforded drew, 5/55 sounded like a lot, but it could have been constructed in a way we could have kept him; The part that pissed me off was hearing about how tight payroll was but we pissed away millions on Mike Hampton, I think it was something like 36 million we paid hampton to be mediocre.

Sorry I always hated the Hampton trad,e it reeked of the Braves FO being so up their ass they thought they could get Cy Young level hampton. But he was only a great pitcher for 3 years of his career.

That bat though.

Same here. People tend to forget all the money Hampton absorbed. Two decent seasons followed by four injury-riddled years (two in which he never pitched at all). It was the era when the Braves were trying to extend the 1990s and starting pitching had always been front-and-center in the team leadership's mind. Problem was they were replacing Glavine and Maddux with the likes of Hampton, Russ Ortiz, John Thomson, and Paul Byrd. Guys like John Burkett and Jaret Wright pulled a whole warren of rabbits out of their hats to help keep things afloat, but the hitting was the big reason they stayed on top.

I don’t post much but I was around for all of that. Then I got a mysterious pm telling me everyone was leaving and to join this other site. The rest is history. Now I don’t post much over here either lol. I do read it all (except for the terrible game threads)

Hampton was only being paid like 2 million by us those first few seasons. Then it went up.

Marlins and rockies were eating a chunk of it.

I just remember it was on the Scout platform and I don't know if Scout is still around. I think it got absorbed by another company. Can't remember the name of the site. Easily could have been BravesCenter.
Yes it was Scout which you are correct is no longer around. That is where someone slipped into my DM's to tell me about ChopCountry...been mostly lurking ever since.

It started as fanhome, then it went to scout. When i was in Iraq in 2002/03 it was fanhome. Sometime before i came home in 2009 it had been bought out by Scout. I think it was around late 2003 early 2004.

That’s what I though too.

My memory is that when we made the trade we backloaded the actual cash for Hampton’s contract, so we only paid two million a year for the first three years and whatever the big number was for the last three years. But for accounting purposes we averaged it out and it was (I think) $8 million a year on the books every year.

Looking back on it. I probablly deserved to be banned but PattioDaddio stalking me kind of crossed a line and was weird
Man, I know I'm prying at this point, but why do you feel that you deserve to be banned back in the day? I still remember the thread on the main board that bill posted when he said he banned you😭

And man, I know this is morbid as hell, but do any of y'all know if Gatom is still with us?

For reasons unknown to even myself, I sort of saw both Gatom n Wilbo as two sides of the same coin back in the day. And, I can only imagine that that was inaccurate, in retrospect.

I want to say that somebody posted that Wilbo, at some point, was facing down the pretty serious heart-related procedure.

I believe Gatom and Wilbo are both gone.

I guess @50PoundHead didn’t care for them enough to share his secret.
