Manfred: DH in NL gaining momentum.

I think a cool compromise would be to allow a pitcher to re-enter the game once after being pinch hit for. That would allow the manager to pinch hit for his starter once without pulling him from the game. It would give more ABs to bench players, and would add another layer of strategy to the game.

I think it needs to be uniform one way or the other, but I'd prefer taking it out of the AL. I don't have a real problem with it, but I see this leading to a lot of guys just wanting to come up as a DH and defense suffering.

I'd like to see a 'trade' take place to offset such a change. Maybe end interleague play (other than that one game each day, which would make THAT game more special perhaps) and that stupid All-Star Game winner gets home field advantage rule. Oh, and make the Wild Card playoff a 3-game series while they're at it.

Yes.

With a DH what does the manager do?

Line up could come from the GM office or bench coach
Pitching changes should come from the pitching coach anyway IMO.
You don't see a ton of bunt (good), steals, hit and run....bench coach could do that.
Defensive shifts are from advanced scouting...

Seems like a lot of money and emphasis on a guy who's major job is to answer media questions.

Great suggestions. Those are my three biggest beefs with the game right now.

Yeah count me in among the ones who say **** this ****ing ****. The DH is an abomination. The red headed step child of sports. If anything, they should just get rid of the DH completely.

But you know what, eff it. Let baseball go to all league DH and robots calling balls and stikes. It'll eventually turn into Blernsball anyways.

I understand missing the strategic element, but I think that will be offset with increased offense (i.e. not an automatic out every three innings). At the very least, it resolves the issue of imbalanced World Series rosters where the NL doesn't have a DH for the AL games and the AL teams can't use their best hitters in the NL games.

and people wonder why baseball is dying.

what a joke. the coolest part about baseball is the actual strategy involved. oh well. soccer will destroy baseball in time anyway and we're seeing some good reasons why.

america's past time isn't good enough to stand on it's own i guess. gotta make this one count and do away with what makes the sport unique. after this look for a 29 team playoff.

this is certainly the 21st century way of thinking. give me more bang and don't make me think about it!
home run yay!

why not just legalize steroids? that would get more offense back too. every year that passes i seem to care just a tiny bit less. this will make that jump steeper. once that happens, we'll be down to about three people in this metro area i'm in of 2 million that like baseball.

Not if it effects their bank account. Unless a guy is truly horrible he will lose value at the DH and thus not make as much.

Exaggerating everything 21st century-ers say is a very 20th century way of thinking.

I like the idea and think it would be a good for the game in the long run. Having a pitcher hit is basically a free out every 3 innings and you don't see a ton of pitchers that are GREaT bunters anyway.

Also makes the guys that are career DHs a shot at the hall of fame.

I hate AL, four-hour, no strategy, DH baseball. The pitcher offering a quick out six times a game is one reason the NL can keep the game close to the three-hour time frame. If this happens, which I agree the game will likely evolve to one day, games will have to start at 6-7 p.m.
It will be a sad day. But I call bull**** on anyone who says they will give up baseball.

Well let's see, front office has torn down the team to the point they weren't watchable, now the MLB powers are gonna ruin what was special about the NL. Way to go.

**** that.
