MARKAKIS BACK

They’re both slow with bad arms.

But much more concerning is Fearless Leader’s grave suggestion that Kakes may end up playing a lot of RF ...

I'd almost lay money I don't have that he starts at least 90% of however many games we end up playing after he rejoins, regardless of handedness or anything else, and over half of those will be in RF. After all these years of slavish obsession, I have no idea how people think Snit will suddenly use him as a platoon player now.

Those player situations are not similar at all.

I do agree that Riley shouldn’t be hitting against tough righties but he needs to see some of them. A strict platoon would be a mistake.

What is Nick’s timeline to ATL? Are they doing extended summer camp since the minors aren’t playing?

Things may sort themselves out by the time he’s ready.

As thewupk pointed out - AA is playing to WIN at the MLB level. They're not going to waste time trying to develop Riley during a 60 game sprint. He's already waved at a few sliders in the dirt - just as they didn't have time to let Folty "find it" again, they don't have time to let Riley keep piling up empty ABs. The developmental/not quite ready guys are in Gwinnett as emergency replacements in the event someone contracts COVID - if Riley hasn't finished (or isn't capable of) making the needed adjustments they'll send him back there to work on things instead of giving them zip.

Adams is batting .176 with a 58 wRC+

"Hot" as in he's gotten a couple hits against lefties (who he shouldn't be seeing at all). He's the Oppo-Riley. Nick will be much better once he's up to speed, no doubt.

(Wasn't looking at his current numbers so much as just going on the fact that I never expect him to succeed at all against LHPs - an obvious eye test flaw.)

Don't think Snitker has a choice anymore - probably a long talk AA had with him before agreeing to pick up Markakis' option to begin with - and likely a part of the reasoning behind Nick originally choosing to go home. Now that he's seen everyone struggling, he probably realizes that they're not going to give any of his LF/RF/DH ABs to Riley against RHPs even if he's hot.

Have to agree here. Snit seems to be making very sound lineup decisions in the early part of this season. Other than Acuna leading off, which isn't even much of anything worth complaining about despite my constant jabs about it, Snit is pretty much deploying the position players perfectly.

As long as he's used right, vs RHP, this is fine. More depth and allows Ozuna to DH just about full-time.

As per usual, Markakis showing up to facilities YOKED beyond belief.

Probably a 30 hr bat with a full offseason to bulk.
